Okay this is really my second day driving the M6 as I only got it imported into Luxembourg today but I've noticed a couple of things that I hope you can help with or at least to make sure there's no problem with the car...
When in reverse on a downward slope the car rolls forward, is this normal?
When reversing the car jolts into action, I cannot seem to get a smooth reversal! Is this normal or am I just ******ed?
And is there a way of properly switching off the CD system? I know that pressing the button next to the CD player mutes but the CD system is still swirling.
Thanks.

the reverse takes some time to get used to, the pedal doesnt do anything and then BAM it kicks in. after a week or two you will get a lot smoother with it and be accustomed to it so it will not be an issue. But no it isnt a smooth transition.
not sure about the slope Q or CD problem. Not too many hills in NYC.
As AJ described, its a matter of timing and finesse on the throttle. The transmission doesnt actually engage reverse the instant you click it into gear, so take that into account.
On the rolling, this too is normal. Because this is a pedal-less manual, you will roll freely in either forward or reverse drive gears until you press the gas to engage the clutch. This is buffered when in a forward gear by the application of the brakes by the computer so you dont roll backward as you come off the brake and onto the gas on a slope. You'll notice on an uphill if you come off the brake and not apply the gas a moment later you'll start rolling backward.

I noticed on a slight decline I'll roll backwards, but if it is steep there is no rolling. I think the brake is automatically applied only above a certain threshhold slope.
It's good to know all is normal, appreciated the feedback, thanks v much
It's increasingly dawning on me that this car packs a serious punch and is just outrightly special!
Mind you, I'd be embarrassed in this day in age if I were in some way involved with the software development as iDrive is sooooo slow. If BMW/IBM would only consider contracting a couple of what were 80's 'bedroom' games programmers, they'd max every 'bits' worth out of the hardware and some!Based on what can be achieved on a mobile phone hardware...!

I don't know if it is the SW, display rendering or more likely the raw CPU speed that is causing the issue....
BMW advertises the amazing 200 Mhz 32 bit CPU.....hey welcome to the mid 1990's! The iDrive is annoying slow at start up when the CPU is sliced doing something else....

Actually it's a bit odd that it's SO slow. My 645 was a lot faster but I had the business sat nav rather than professional (smaller screen, no map) and I didn't have feedback to the knob it was introduced after my car was manufactured. I suspect one or both of these "features" causes the issue.
200mhz, 32bit should be OK for the small job the CPU has to do really.. Assuming that the Idrive is it's only job of course!
