Looking to buy 2006 M5, warranty question

I have had a deposit on the next M3 since '05, but as time goes by I am looking into purchasing a 2006 m5 but only with an extended warranty. By that , I mean one that is warranted to 100k miles. I am quite certain I will own the car beyond its 50k BMW warranty and I don't want any serious repair bills dropped in my lap afterwards. If BMW is not going to CPO these cars, is there anything to worry about with a non-BMW warranty company? Thanks for your help.

From doing a search on this subject (I'm interested in getting it myself), it looks like they all suck pretty much and that the only ones that are decent are the ones you can get from the dealer when you buy it new.

Anybody want to confirm or deny this statement?

I was told that BMW will NOT offer an extended beyond 50K miles.

I find it difficult to believe that in the coming months when many cars are returned as lease turn-ins that BMW won't be forced to add the CPO tag to these cars to help move them off the dealer lots. But , if this is the case, then I will have to pass. There is just no way I am going to be comfortable driving this car when the odometer hits 50001 miles. After reading all the horror stories of malfunctions on this beast with even less mileage, I must have a great warranty for peace of mind.

I just bought a 2006 M5 about a month ago. The car has 12,000 mile on it and came with an extended warranty that the first owner must have purchased. I'm covered bumper to bumper for 3 years and 50,000 miles. The extended warranty gives me 6 years and 100,000 miles on the drive train!

What I thought was cool is.......when I took it to the dealer, they put my key in a "key reader" and all my info about the car including my warranty's came up on the computer! WOW.........my S/A gave me a copy of it for reference.

I would check to make sure the original owner extended warranty is transferable (I would think it should be but who knows). If its not then you are screwed. If it is this makes a strong argument going forward for always buying it when you get a new M just to make sure the car can be done 6/100.

Model year 2006 would concern me with or without any kind of warranty.

I am stretching it to afford a 2006 model, so that question is moot. No 2007 or newer for me. If anyone can tell me that there are good third party warranty companies that are ready to take on the M5's repairs, I am interested.

Just get an 06 with an April or after build. Mid-year refresh fixed a few things like the VANOS line.

Check with your insurance agent and with your credit union. Assuming you work with a reputable insurance agent they should have some good options for you. The credit union is another great source as well since there is no haggling over the price.
