Transmission Malfunction..........

OK........I'm sitting in the state inspection facility getting my SMG, 2006 M5 inspected(since I bought it used). The guy was just starting the inspection...........lifted my hood and looked around. Lowered my hood and the car threw the code "Transmission Malfunction". It also told me to drive directly to my BMW service facility and not to shut off the engine because it may not start back up again!

Well, I went to move the car and it was stuck in neutral. All it would do is "rev". They had to push me back out of the inspection station(how embarrasing). I called my dealer and they went through several proceedures over the phone with me to get it going. No luck and........the car would not start back up just like the information told me. They did send a flatbed for me and drove me back to the dealer.

The bottom line is that the dealer told me that there is a service bulliten out on this problem and that the fix is to replace a hydrolic pump in the Trans. My S/A tells me that it is a brand new service bulliten and wasn't even in his system yet. Anyway.......I should have the car back today.

Has anyone else heard of this problem or experienced the same type of thing? Any thoughts on this........?

Yes - it's a well known issue and should have been a recall of all cars!

What a load of BS that SA is giving you. See here Recall for SMG electric motor for a thread on the recall, which was announced in April. Good luck with the fix.

I had a transmission malfunction sign and could not start the car yesterday. My car was towed to the dealership. Let see what they are saying.

Geeez - had to do a double take after reading part way into this thread - figured the original post date would have been months old but no!
Come on BMW! - get it together - this is becoming way beyond rediculous!

A working SMG is the greatest - key word - WORKING.
