While rendering the high-def version of the video, I noticed that once DSC kicked-off at 340kph indicated (318 kph GPS), the speedometer froze (pegged out) and my tach kept climbing. That equates to a 6.9 percent error at that speed between the GPS and the speedo. At 332 kph GPS, I should have seen about 355 kph indicated!!!

This is IMHO without question the most well done of all the top speed trial videos that have been made available online.

Simply exhilirating even from my stationary office chair...I can only imagine what the passenger (let alone driver) seat is like.

Kudos on a great video / post Russ, and thanks for your contribution.

...best of all it was safe and legal!

Correct me if I am wrong but at these speeds, DSC needs to be switched off because of some sort of wheel slippage issue. For the life of me, I cannot remember the issue right now.

This is the only other way to switch off DSC without actually pressing any buttons. I was in MDM mode until it hit 340kph/211mph when it disengages automatically.

But why? I can't remember why DSC has to get switched off to hit these speeds. It is either a differential between left and right rear wheels or a differential between front & rear wheels....

Well done! You've managed to do something that a car show here in the UK, Fifth Gear, has tried to do in two separate episodes now...break the 200mph barrier.
Their first attempt was in a Brabus Rocket in Germany but they broke the car and then ran out of road and time, the second was in an A1 GP car on a runway and they still failed....and you manage to do it on a Sunday drive in your daily runner! Legend!

I really can't say why. All I know is that it does, and it does it consistently at the precise speed of 340 kph indicated (when the speedo stops moving). Maybe it is some limit of the pick-up in the diff. Maybe it gets a BS signal and gets a miscompare and disables the system until the computer and the sensors begin to jive. Incidentally, the car returned back to MDM mode as soon as I slowed a bit...

Is there a BMW representative who can explain this???

Wow! Thanks scoopz. I didn't realize it was such a big deal. I would be more than happy to have the 5th Gear crew come and visit me in Germany so I can show them how I did it. It only took about an hour to set up a couple cameras, buy a tank of gas, and pick the best day of the week to do it...

I think I have found my way to worship God (200 mph on a Sunday Morning)
