My brother-in-law arrived in town this morning rather unexpectedly from Japan. He will be traveling across the US on business the next couple of weeks, so he booked an earlier flight, just so he could surprise us. It was a good excuse to stay away from the office and go play today.
We headed out the Columbia Gorge though Hood River and back into Portland via a back road route full of twists, dips and straights. This is part of the same scenic route I had mapped out as one possibility for when Gustav comes through in August. Anyway, after starting out rater sedately, we soon had the M5 squealing through the corners and blasting down the straights. The new Dinan roll control kit really showed its stuff today!

Shawn, looks like you had a great day up there for a drive. Really like the looks of the interior mods too...did you have those a couple months ago? I must of been blinded by the red if I didn't notice them then ;-)

Most of the interior mods were in place when you last saw the car. The only difference is the CF shifter base plate, which my brother-in-law brought over from Japan. It really helps bring the all CF interior accents and the piano black trim together. It now looks and feels like a factory build.
For those of you have been curious about the combination of H&R Springs and the Dinan front and rear roll control kit vs. the Stage 2 Dinan kit; it works great! The H&R's are slightly stiffer and a bit lower than the Dinan springs. Therefore, the impact from roll control kit is not as obvious as with the Dinan springs. However, the change in my car is very noticeable, particularly at corner entry (turn-in) and increased controllability of exit oversteer, i.e. corrections are far more precise and quicker. The chassis is also less prone to weight transfer issues when you do have to make minor corrections to your speed or line through a corner. I’m very happy with the total package:
· H&R springs
· Dinan front and rear roll control kit
· Dinan front and rear CF strut braces
· BBS 20” RSGT’s
· Michelin PS2 tires
· Alignment as close to Dinan specs as possible
After all the fun with the M5 yesterday, we decided to go a different route today and take out my wife’s recent birthday gift; a Mini Cooper S Works, for some in town touring. The Mini has been a dream car for my wife ever since they came out. I was lucky enough to find this gem just in time for her birthday. She is working on her list of “improvements” with her brother right now. For now, both cars are off to the detail shop tomorrow AM for some well deserved TLC.
And for those of you who are M5 purists, I’ve also included a couple more M5 shots as an excuse to posts the pic of the Mini.
