Tail of the Dragon

The VA M5ers are trying to organize a trip to the Tail of the Dragon (www.tailofthedragon.com). The thread, which seeks suggestions and gauges interest, is in the Events section: Official 2007 Tail of the Dragon Organization Thread. The purpose of this post is to let everyone know about that thread. Please keep the discussion there.

I went with a friend just a few weeks ago. Definitely a fun drive while we were there even though the weather didn't turn out to be the best.

I see no problem with driving the car year round, and do so myself. The car handles quite predictably with snow tires, and while probably not as stable as a four wheel drive vehicle, is still quite safe (and fun).

+1. I just don't understand the rationale behind hibernating the M5 for the winter (and some as drastic as not exposing it to rain: oh, the horror!). It's not a race car. It's a sedan, people! No, not the best winter vehicle, but certainly a capable one. Stop worrying about getting your cars getting wet and salty (surprise, salt washes off!), slap on some snow tires, start driving, and stop treating the M5 like a GT3 RS.

I drive mine year round. Only drive the SUV when we get real snow, which is never anymore. That's why it has stability control and windshield wipers.

I drive all my rear wheel cars year round... uless I just can't even get out of the driveway, then I go for the 4X4.
but they are just cars, although nice ones, but still.
