"Damn you porters"

Well after giving JoeClothing a hard time about the damage to his rear bumper in the city, I brought a curse upon myself. The beast is in need of a cool bumper sticker. I took my beast into VOB BMW in Rockville for some recall work on the 26th. I was the first one there around 715 am. There was a guy there checking in all the vehicles. He walked around the beast and made sure there were no damages and commented that the beast was flawless. I told him that is exactly how I would like it returned. He said "dont worry, we know how you guys are sticklers for details". Well anyway, after a little hesitation, I finally left the dealership after meeting with the Service guy. As I jumped in my friends car, I mentioned how I hate leaving the car at the dealership and how they dont care about your car. Especially the porters.

Later on that day I got a call from the Service guy, who stated the car would not be ready till the 27th. I said okay, just make sure the car is taken care off. He said, it is being programmed, so it is sitting alone and cannot be disturbed. I already had a funny feeling in my gut.

Today I get the call and I was told that the car is ready to go. I was all excited to get the beast back and had my cousin rush me to the dealership. I told him that I would be fine and I let him go. I went in and I guess they were closing for the night. I went to the cashier and signed the paper work and waited for the porter to bring my car down. After a few mins, I spotted my car coming down the ramp and the guy parked it right outside the door. As always, I began my inspection of the beast from the drivers side then onto the rear. As I got to the right rear corner of the beast, my heart just dropped. The corner was scratched up. I was like "FUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDGGGGE". I could not believe it. I had a feeling that this would happen for the past two days, but I could not believe that it actually did. I did not know what to do. I was looking for the nearest thing to punch or strangle. I rushed back inside and yelled "there is damage to my car". Since it was closing, the service manager was the only one left. He came out and said something that almost got him hurt. He said " Are you sure that it was not there before"? I completely lost it and started hurling obscenities. I was not mad at him but at the situation. He said " there is no need for cursing". I said if you paid this much money for a car and it got scratched up at the dealership during service, you would curse too. I was furious. I know it is a car, but still to the few that take care of their cars, this is crazy. I know it might be sad but I take care of the beast more than I take care of myself.

The service manager went in and got the check in sheet from the day prior to see if any damages were noted when the car was checked in. And as I told him, none were noted. The car was flawless. He then began to tell me that there was no structural damage and that it is just a few scratches. These were pretty deep as it hit the plastic in the bumper. One came real close to one of the back up sensor. The lines were black. It was almost as if someone who was parked behind it tried to go around and made contact with their cars front corner. Hopefully who ever owned that car noticed that the damn porters scratched up their car as well.

The service manager then told me that he was sorry and that he will get it fixed. He asked me when I wanted to drop it off to get it fixed. I said fix it now, I dont care just get it done now. I was gone by this point and nothing else really registered. He was offering me a loaner car for the mean time to which I said no. At that damn dealership, you have to rent a car through enterprise. Last time I got a Dodge Neon. So I was like no and called my cousin. He was almost home and came back to pick me up. The service manager gave me his card and told me that he would call me personally and give me an update and would try to get me the car within a week.

I know its not his fault, but someone has to be at fault. At the end, it is my fault. I made the choice to get the car from that dealership and to take it there for its recall work. I guess the point of the lengthy write up is that Shi* happens. No matter how much you take care of your beast. 3M it or Zaino it or what have you, you are at the mercy of the damn porters at the stealers. All your work and care amounts to nothing as you roll the dice and leave the car at the stealers.

Ouch! I am sorry man. I would be so pissed too. It is not your fault, it is completely their fault. Find out who did it and how. THOSE PIECES OF SH*T MUST BEG FOR FORGIVENESS!!! Also, make sure they fix it right, and not have some of mook come out with a spray can and think you are not going to notice.

They better fix it right or I am not going to accept the vehicle. I also forgot to look at the mileage. That will be another battle, if I see excessive mileage on the car.

I suggest you pay close attention to exactly what they do to repair the damage. If the repair requires repainting a significant portion of the car, you have a viable diminution in value claim as well. On resale, you almost certainly will be asked whether any paint work has been done on the car. As soon as you answer affirmatively, the price will decline. Since the dealership is responsible, you should have easier recourse.

that is painful to hear. No one cares about your beast like you or a fellow beast owner. Very few others understand our obsession.

Very sorry to hear of your plight, triple-M. You put it well in terms of mentioning that sh*t happens, even to the best and worst (ie: the dealer) of us. Hope things turn out ok. For what it's worth, we -- and our beasts -- are all just a bunch of accidents waiting to happen .

MMMach, please take an active role in the repairs. I know the last thing you want to do is to speak to the people who did the damage.....you need to ensure it is repaired properly.

It is plastic so the best remedy is a complete replacement of the part. It is hard to repair and paint plastic.

That sucks....

Sorry to hear that MMMach, that sucks. I say a prayer everytime I drop my car off at the stealer, car wash, custom shop....everywhere! No one and I mean no one cares about our beasts as much as we do. You would think of all people the dealers would be the best. Good luck with the repair,
