Feedback on removing rear mufflers?

could anybody give me their opinion on the pro's and con's of modifying their exhuast system by simply removing the rear mufflers on the E60. I was talking to a who was trying to talk me into do that instead of spending the big bucks on a whole new system. Dazed and confused.

Also, plenty of threads here discussing different exhausts. Use the search feature and you'll find them.

Short of that, the two most popular choices are Eisenmann and Supersprint. Though Hartge is right up there with them.

Maybe haven't really answered your question, but you'll need to decide from mild to wild and then you'll know which direction to take from that point.

eisenmann Race system - cat back - love it.

from what i have heard its one of the louder systems out there. i got it for 2300 installed 8 months ago, i think you could get a better deal today.

in p500 i would say its sounds between a gallardo - F430 freinds have confirmed this as well

P400 is a bit more tame - i use the handsfree with windows and roof closed and sounds fine.

i love it, thinks it makes it sound the way it was suposed to.

Hi, could anyone enlighten me with regard to BMW UK warranty with after-market exhaust systems? Collected my new E60 last weekend (OH MY GOD ITS F***ING AWESOME!!!) and when I asked the sales guy he said it could invalidate the warranty on anything to do with the engine and drivetrain if I fit an aftermarket exhaust??

If you go for the rear mufflers only (without headers and X pipe) there is certainly no problem with the warranty,i had the same question as you do,but my BMW service advisor told me its 100% OK,and btw my BMW dealer installs aftermarket exhausts. Hope that helps

I was at my dealor today and they said the Dinan exhaust is the only sys that doesn't void warranty. Any thoughts about DINAN.

Dannamichael - where did you get your system, same place as installed??

I am on the list for the Dinan exhaust mainly because of the warranty issue. What I know about it so far is what the Dinan rep told me. The sound won't be too loud but louder than stock. And it won't be as deep as the supersprint and it won't be as high pitched as the eisenmann. I was also told that there will be a 9hp gain, however I am not sure that they can get 9hp from just the mufflers. The way I am thinking currently is that I'll get the Dinan exhaust and if it isn't loud enough I'll put an x-pipe (that will void the warranty most likely). But the system I really want is the Kreis-sieg but I am having a hard time justifying $7000 for an exhaust when the dinan is $2000 and an x-pipe would be around $500. But than again opening and closing the valves with a button might just be worth it.

The 9 HP gain would probably come from the upcoming Dinan Software upgrade complementing the exhaust system. I am rather skeptical with 9HP gain on an exhaust by itself... but we'll see
