Hartge front spoiler lip, rear skirt - just cosmetic?

Do the Hartge front spoiler lip and rear skirt serve any functional purpose (e.g., do they increase down-pressure at high speed), or are they purely cosmetic?

Well considering how ugly the hartge exterior looks there can be no other explanation then that its functional.

While their intent may be to smooth the airflow around the car, I seriously doubt they are effective. However, I do like the look of the front lip on my car!

Welcome to the board.

'quido you can't be serious. On the 6 series sure, I will give you that the Hartge styling is an atrocity. But the M5 Hartge lip and diffusor along with Classic 2's looks great. WAY WAY better than the Hamann and more sleek than the Schnitzer rendition to be certain no?

I think the front lip looks great, too. The rear piece doesn't really do much, but it does make the back of the car look a little more "finished." I have a question - is the front lip easily installed/removed? IOW, how "permanent" is it?

I agree, Gustav! I really think the Hartge mods look great on the E60 M5!

Can you by chance answer my original question, though -- do the front lip or rear skirt serve any functional purpose, or do they just enhance the cars looks (which they definitely succeed in doing)?

Also, am I better off buying directly from Hartge, and getting the m5board discount, or buying from a dealer here in the U.S.A.?

Me?

I hate that folded front lip-thing.....wheels look great but anything over size 19 is just oversized.
I might be very conservative but there are very very few aftermarket products I find better looking then stock

there's nothing better than HARTGE parts on m5... prove me wrong if you can. Hartge M5 is SEX on wheels.

Btw i agree on the wheels size tho. anything over 19 is kinda big and straight blingy.
