128k is fine on an iPod using the supplied ear-buds - in fact with most stuff 64k is!

I think it was C&D magazine that rated the Logic7 HiFi as being one of the top 10 factory stereos of all time. It is good enough to benefit from the higher bit-rates.

Please Help!?

I would like to self install the ipod adapter, but I am confused as to whether or not I need a software update to make it work. My beast has a build date of 9-27-05 & as far as I know the software has never been updated since. It has the CDC, of course, so the wiring should be ready. Some here are saying the software needs updating and some are saying not.

Can anyone tell me which is correct for my build date???

Any help would be most appreciated.

I think you'll probably be safe - you can always get your dealer to recode if it doesn't work.

SteveRR, I have the same questions as you. I've been calling around
seeing if any dealership offers a reasonably priced install. If not I'm
going to install it myself and see if it works. If it doesn't then I'll take
it in and get the software update if necessary.

Just do it if it does not work call the dealer and tell them "my cd player keeps playing when the car turns off" that should get the software updated for free.

I have to correct the pricing which I posted yesterday for what I had been told was the iPod interface. In fact, the fellow in the parts department at my dealership was quoting the price for the auxiliary input plug only.

The price for the actual interface is $359.50, although he is prepared to sell it to me for $305.50. It will take a couple of days to get it in stock.

The install time for the proper piece (the interface) has come down from four hours previously quoted (for the auxiliary input) to only one hour. I'm still going to do it myself.

Called in to the local BMW dealership yesterday, they had 6 in stock! Got mine for $300. Installed it myself within 20 minutes. Did not even bother to take off the glove compartnment - really not necessary
.
Now my Alpine White 07.2006 M5 had the soundtrack it deserves!

Thanks again for all posts here on this topic. Made it simple and saved a lot of $$$$!

Tried to install it this morning but unfortunately it seems like it
doesn't work for me. I have a 4.2006 M6 and I'm not certain what
version of the software I have.

I basically followed the instructions posted and tried testing it.
I did get the "Ok to disconnect" image on my IPod but I never
got any response from the IDrive. I don't know if I was impatient
or not and eventually something was going to happen? Perhaps
I'm forgetting something fundamental. I turned off the car (didn't
disconnect battery). Pulled out the CD changer. Plugged in the
adapter and plugged in the Ipod. Turned on car. Nothing except
no CD1-x data. Any suggestions?
