I too love the look of the sport seats, but the vented seats are so comfortable. I also had an '07 on order at Dallas BMW and noticed you could get alcantara headliner without full leather.
Although BMW has technically seperated the two options for '07 (different option numbers), you still can't get one without the other.
Andrew, if you are ever looking for a dealer reference in the NYC area let me know.
As to the active seats. At first I thought they were a gimmick- pure and simple. But, I thought it to be fun and I also like how the seats offer more adjustability. Now, the extra adjustments might not justify the price for some, but I am one of those anal ones who likes his seat just right. And these seats are among the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced. And supportive too. And you can easily adjust the side blosters manually too. Now that I use them, I love them. Sure there is a tiny delay but for M mode driving- I love it. JMHO.

The more you drive the M5 the more you appreciate BMW’s effort to build a car that is comfortable to drive and a powerful race-inspired machine when preferred. IMO, the active seats are a great example; they are comfortable when you want comfort and supportive only when and where needed to be.
That being said, I would have liked the comfort of comfort seats with the look of the sport seats.
At the end of the day, the over-riding factor for me was the ability to fit the visualogic DVD palyers. To go for the comfort seats would have cost me $2K (plus I would have then ponied up for the Ventilated seats for another grand or so) and the alternatve DVD system was about $2K more than what the Viualogic is running me (and the head units would need to be mounted in the glove box). Despite the fun I would have had while my friends experienced those seats for the first time, it did'nt warrant the trade off of an extra $5K and a less satisfactory solution for the DVD system.
I hope to be in production this week or next. Hoping on a plane is not an option since I am waiting on a 2007. I was originally waiting for the 6-Speed (see above post). Since I did not become an SMG convert (read: "get to drive an SMG") until late June and slots for the 2007s were opening up within a few weeks, I decided (uncharateristically) to be patient and wait for the '07. Given that the lease on my 7 isn't up until December and the chance to have the '07 vs. the '06 (bugs, resale value, etc.), I have to think it was the right decision, no matter how painful the wait.
O.K., that's a "human" waiting-period. I often hear of people who are just waiting for their car (no ending lease) and have 6 months ahead of them BEFORE the car even gets into production...
And that's simply unnecessary and waisted time NOT sitting in their new M...

That's exactly what I like about the M5 - driving a beast without sacrificing any comfort - a real multi-talent...

You can always turn the active portion on and off whenever, and dial in just what you want with the M button. These are the most comfortable seats there, but they support you just right, no slipping and sliding. I consider these more supportive and secure than my previous M5's sport seats.
