Functionality of Launch Control? (Canada)

Hey guys, I decided to try launch control today for the first time, I was just at the stoplight, there was no one infront of so I decided to do it. I press my "m" button which is programed to P500S DSC off, Sport, S6, then I pushed the SMG stick forward and floored it. The car got to 1500 rpm and stayed there, when the light turned green I let the stick go and it went , but all of a sudden I felt a huge decrease in power, I looked at my tach and saw that I was riding the redline... I was under an impression that in launch control mode the shifts happen automaticly, am I right?
BTW, (I have to ask this, some of you know that I'm really paranoid) I was on the redline for like 2-3 seconds, nothing is going to happen to the car right?

Cheers

No sweat

Well, at least for us Yankees BMW disabled the autoshift component to the launch control and it appears that that covers all of North America. What that means is that you have to shift it yourself when you get close to the redline and keep your right foot firmly planted all the time.

And no, should not be any damage to the engine - auto cutoff is what you experienced when it hit the limiter. Go give it a try again

Cheers, Tom.

Thanks Tom, I thought that for NA they only decreased the revs, didn't know they disabled the autoshift, anyway, NA crippled launch control is not as hard on the car as the Euro launch control right? Can I use it as many times as I want?

Seen a lot of talk on here about the American crippled launch control, any ideas why BMW have done that?

Because Americans can't drive well as it's only Europeans who're experts behind the wheel. BMW decided to not allow those in the collonies the capability of hurting themselves by giving them a toy of such magnitude

Just kidding, i'm sure their is an explanation why these subtle differences exist with US cars (don't tell them that their cars are not quite as powerful either due to that silly charcoal filter they have ) My guess it's more to do with emissions & general anti-social behavour. We have the nanny state in the UK & Europe but it's far more pronounced in the US & BMW have to satisfy the very worst state requirements which i believe are in California so as not to be required to build state varying M5's.

All the above is my stab in the dark & could be a pile of sh1te but at least i had a go at answering.

The crippled L/C in the US drops the rev limit down to 1500-1800 (in the UK & Europe it's 4000 i believe) & also i believe in the UK & Europe the transmission will auto shift from 1st to 2nd when using full L/C/
