C55 impressive against M5
Had a chance to do multiple runs against my father's C55 the other night. Running along I dropped it to third in P500S S5 at about 5500 and we both floored it side by side and the C55 stayed even with the M5 until about 120 then the M5 slowly started to pull away. Two people in the M5, one in the C55, both cars stock.

you should be at 7000 rpms or so.. at 5500 rpms i assume the c55 got the jump.. then it takes longer to reel in.
and no, that result does not ring true as gustav said.. the c55 measures up nicely to the e39 m5... but an e60 m5 should pull it harder..

Yeah, I think you are right after all it's very difficult to put your foot to the floor and shift at redline.
All I am doing is reporting what happened, believe me, I wanted and assumed the M5 would walk it but it didn't go that way. Would I still take the M5 over any Benz, hell yes.

I have beat a C55 in my 2004 M3 by 2 car lengths. I thought the M5 with 507 hp would literally eat a C55 up.

maybe the c55 was in second gear when you guys floored it......... considering the c55 is not a slow car
2nd gear vs 3rd for the m5 might get such a result!!
i had a clk 500 and i took off from dead stop with e55 and i had a slight jump all the way to 60 mph when he walked away from me!(weight advantage)
i think a c55 would walk neck to neck with an e55 to 85 mph from a dead stop!(weight advantage again) but rolling start im not sure.
plus an m5 need a little driving skill plus s6 woulld help more.
i remember i was on the freeway doing about 100 mph and an m3 was ahead of me.... i strated noticing he dosint want me to pass him in my m5.... i took a good position and grabed the steering with both hands.... droped the gear and i was gonnne !

Yes S6 and shifting right on redline makes a difference (right when the HUD Flashes pull the paddle ). Practice it... then when you need it it will be second nature.

A couple of mistakes here:
1) 120mph is just for warming the V10 up! The car shows its true potential from there and up, and to state that you could keep up with a C55 can only be considered as a joke!
2) If you want to trully experience the V10 effect of your beast, please don't use other mode than S6. There's no other way to really see what your car can really do! S5 might be a fast mode to run, but S6 is simply warp mode!
Should you choose to de-restrict your M5 by a reputable EU tuner, then only a handful of cars might be able to seriously keep up with you...

that's always the difficulty in a race..... every car has got a sweet spot... so it's basicly never 100% fair

I used to own a C55 before I bought the beast, and I can tell you the car is fast, in a straight line below 120mph. The lack of LSD, fairly soft suspension, and high center of gravity makes the car's handling mediocre at best. The M5 when driven properly, (RPM above 6k) should have no problem leaving the C55 in the dust at any speed.
