E60 M5 Brake Calipers

Why are the rear calipers for the M5 so wimpy? Does BMW use Brembos or do they have their own brakes? Either way, why couldn't BMW design the brake calipers a bit better like the Porsches? The front calipers are big, but they are hideous. Why not a solid piece of black or red or yellow with BMW Motorsport on it or something like that? Boy! Those rear calipers, as someone recently mentioned in another thread, are REALLY wimpy!!!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried painting their brakes another color? I have seen silver or grey Porsches with red brakes, and the combination is rather striking. I have a silver-gray metallic M5, and I think red brakes would give the car a distingushed look. Although, with the amount of brake dust generated with hard driving, it might be a pain in the arse to clean. For anyone who owns a car with red brakes, is cleaning the brakes a pain? Does anyone know a shop in SoCal who can paint brakes red?

BMW seems to be remaining stubborn in insisting on having their own brakes rather than turning to Brembo like everyone else. So, they're BMW brakes, made by some OE supplier. Although they work fine on the street and can work OK on the track with the proper pads, I wish BMW would start fitting ///M cars with Brembos with color choices. Maybe someday they will.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting ///M also put onto the brakes, but whats up with the rear. They are too cut up to do that. No big enough solid piece to fit it unless we squeeze in a really small ///M which would look bad. AMG calipers look really good when driving and the rear setup on all the 55's and 65's have plenty of room to fit the AMG logo. Just the M5's rear rotors look monstrous compared to the 55's rears.

Anyone know if Brembo or StopTech have kits out for the M5/M6 yet? I see they have kits for the E60/E63 but the Ms are not mentioned...

Craig
Zeckhausen Racing has both the Brembo and the Stop Tech kits for the E60 M5. Evosport has two kits in development; a 8-pot and 12-pot Rotora.
