literal reading of break in procedure

So, this friday I finally have my 1200 mile check. In anticipation of my new freedom I re-read the break in section of the mannual and wanted to clarify the following.

1. It says don't use program 5 and 6 during the break in period and then continues to explore specifics for the first 1200 vs 3000 miles. It appears to me that the 5 and 6 limitation is in effect for the full 3000 miles. Is this right?

2. After 1200 miles it says you. Can gradually increase the engine speed up to 3000 miles. Does this mean the day after my 1200 mile service I can still only top out at 5500 rpm and I basically straight line increase the rpms up to 3000 miles?

I don't intend on racing the car but it would be nice to leave it in shift speed 4 or 5 with 500 horsepower and not have to be crazy about watching the rpms?

Also, have you noticed that you can't really use the HUD during break in since at 5500 rpm the HUD barely moves?

Thanks

The HUD display is a logarithmic representation of revs, so the higher and faster the engine revs the bigger and brighter it will light up- this is useful when you are looking out of the corner of the eye.

My reading of the OM is that the transmission and differential are fully broke-in at 1200 miles whereas the engine is not fully broke-in until the 3000 mile mark. I confirmed that with two technicians at the M Driving Experience as well as my dealer servive advisor and mechanic.

After my breakin I attempted to increase revs slightly but then just
said screw it. At 1350 miles I'm frequently in the 7-8k range. The cars
are way fun past the 7k rpm area which is where you'll start seeing
the HUD more active.
