M5 vs 911 turbo S (993)

So... I have this friend and he owns a 911 Turbo S (993) with 450hp. I want to know what my chances are, say from a 50km/h roll.. I think that the 993 turbo S is lighter than the 996 turbo S, so i think it won't be very easy... Any thoughs?

I have raced the 993 Turbo S. The non US version had the larger turbos from the GT2 and is fast. You wil lcatch it over 220 km/hm but below 170 km/h its very fast. So go as fast as you can with the hardest DSC settings. In higher speeds its an easy kill due to the worse aerodynamic of the 993.

Vs a tuned 996 Turbo:

If you want to beat the 993 Turbo S, you have to (just as Gustav says) beat it by Cw values, gear shifts and traction.

Make sure you do a rolling start outside the Turbos powerrange and that you have really dry and warm conditions. This way the AWD will not give any advantage and high temp makes the turbo less effective. The TT "hits" the wall of air and then you should be able to slip by him.

If he starts at 4000rpm and builds boost with brake - he's going to smoke you at the start. If he has chip-tuned the car, dont race. A 993 Turbo can in right conditions even catch a 996 Turbo. Attached article..

Besides Jean Luc Picard did the advertising for the 993 Turbo here in the US. "Make it so"

I almost bought a 993Turbo as a second car, had the chance of trading in my M3 cabrio + change for a 1997 993T. Just missed the deal, 993 got sold while I was on a short vacation.. still I would like to own one.. and Im looking at buying a car to replace the M3.

The 993TT and 996TT are identical in power and torque. The 996 just has all the electronic controls. I had a 993TT before the 996TT. Max torque of 415lbs is at 3000RPMs. You want a rolling start for any chance of getting him at top end.

The 993TT will do a 12.2 quarter mile. For a 0-150mph+ run, however, it'd probably be too close to call between an M5/M6 and the TT, the edge might go to the Ms.

A few pics of my MY97 can be seen in posts #9 and #15 of this thread:
What other cars do you have beside the M6?.

Enjoy.

I saw the pictures and what a masterpiece... I love this car! The problem is that my friends is the Turbo S, with 450hp not 408hp. I don't think that i'll be able to stay close to him from a dead stop. i was thinking about a 50 - 250km/h both cars in 2nd gear... Please help me out here, this race is going to happen sooner or later...
