WAHEY!!! Can't wait.

Place your bets........

Assuming they are both stock, I expect that it will be very close. The RS4 weighs less so might get the jump, although I'm sure that the RS4 revs quite highly and doesn't produce as much torque as the M5 so it might be very close indeed.

I wouldn't expect the extra 14bhp that the RS4 has over the E39 to make many odds at higher speeds. Anyone know the drag co-efficients of them both?

Looks good. Very interested to see the video, as the RS4 is on my list of possible replacements for my M5.

Surely though the difference is going to be down to the skill of the drivers more than anything else? On the numbers alone, I would expect the M5 to be all over the RS4 like a rash in a straight line, and for the RS4 to soundly thrash the M5 through the twisties.

Can't wait to find out !

We had bad luck and couldnt try very fast speeds. However in some instances you were feeling "this is the limit for the M5, push it more and it will be really dicey". I think the somewhat active dampers on the RS4 and the 4WD really inspires confidence in the cornmers. However I think the M5 is communicating better. We'll see but you will mostly hear BMW M5 V8 sound. Both cars are completely stock.
