I think they tried taking the knob off and reinstalling it. I think the whole I Drive controller needs to be replaced. Ask your service center which they would do for you...
But it sounds like even if they replace the entire iDrive controller, it will start clicking again after a few days. No point to have it replaced if there is a fundamental flaw in the design, and the problem will just resurface again, no?
