I had a question on shifting with smg. When you have your gear selector in Automatic( ) does the engine still tap out at 8250 rpm or less. Also when your in manual mode when you get to 8250 rpm does it automaticly shift next gear or you have to do it manualy shift to the next gear. Sorry for all the question but I'm new with smg.
Well, I don't have my M5 yet, but I've had an M3 for 3 years. Every time I drove the M3 in auto mode, I never got near the redline, it usually shifted before that point.
In manual mode, you still have to shift even if you hit the redline, otherwise, you can over rev.
Good luck,
Raj

The SMG does shift at redline in D mode (especially higher D modes) with appropriately high throttle. I usually use D5, and it shifts at the correct points. One of the advantages in accelerating in D mode is that the shift point is perfect during WOT where it's very easy to miss the optimal shift point in S modes, especially in lower gears where revs increase so quickly.
