+1

thats why I always wait. I never buy first production year cars. I usually wait until BMW does the LCI on the model and matures it's design, and as you said, works out the kinks.

More power to those that rush in to buy first year productions. I'm interested to hear all the problems the F10 M5 is going to have with it's new TT engine.

You're probably better off waiting 2 1/2 years, because you just know they are going to make better features, likely cosmetics, during it's LCI.

I just read this whole post my decision to not buy a 06-07 was very strong, now thanks to you it is solid. For this reason I never buy a first year run from any model car. Sorry you had to go through this.....

^^ I think the 06 and 07 get unfair criticism.. Some 06 and 07 run ok and i think you can find 08 with issues too. Yes LCI is nice but what if the 08+ car is not maintained properly, raised rev limiter (as if 8250k is inadequate), multiple LC and sustained abuse? I think OPs case was extraordinary but car repair history for LCI cars just as important when looking for a car.

That is correct they do get a bad rap but I like the LCI model better. The small upgrades they done to the car I feel makes it look a lot better i.e. lights driver door handle, Idrive, seats, etc etc. The 08 is at the top of my price range right now I could easily get into an 07 but then I will be looking to "upgrade" it to look like an 08. Like you said the main thing boils down to how the car was taken care of, an that will be one of my main points when I do pick one up.

I really don't see the need to wait for a couple of years if one is inclined to buy the F10 M5.

It has nothing new that has not been tried and tested before. The engine was first supercharged by Alpina for the E6x models and then turbo charged by BMW ///M themselves in the X ///Ms.

The DCT had also been there since the E9x M3s and then in the X ///Ms.

So really, what is new in this car that can go wrong in the first production batch?
