That's not too good. I average 15 mpg combined city/hwy in my e39 M5 and get up to 24mpg at a steady 65mph on the highway...I may have to reconsider my decision to order a new M5 this week? In fact, I get over 12mpg in my 1982 Ferrari Boxer !

So for a "potential" 3 mpg, you'd pass on this car??

Your results may be better. You can't go by others' driving habits.

just checked. i have gotten 10.6 in my first 1200 miles. I absolutely couldn't care less, although it would be nice if the range were a bit longer.

Combined city/highway will push the mileage into the 14-15 range, depending on what the combination is. A steady 78 mph yields 20 mpg. The mileage issue has been beaten to death. Your Boxer doesn't have 500 hp. The 400-hp Maserati gets marginally worse mileage than the M5. Our MB E320 wagon with all of its 221 hp gets no better than around 17-18 mpg in the city. I respectfully submit that, for most, the difference in annual fuel costs that a 2-3 mpg difference makes is not a compelling reason to not buy a car costing over $90,000.
