No Launch Control?

I know, I know... Launch Control has been covered thousands of times...

But today I got my car from the service dept at the BMW dealer for the 1200 mile service and I literally only have two words to describe this car "F'ing Incredible!" Those are the only words that came to mind when I was driving it around tonight and back home from the dealer.
I have a 2006 Z06 and that thing is altogether just a different animal but the M5 is unlike anything I have ever experienced before in my life. The engine, the exhaust, the gearbox, the SHIFTING!, the M button ... it all adds up to one of the greatest cars this world has ever seen, without a doubt. If you have any doubts on whether or not to get this car, take it and run... run forever and ever and ever... you get my point.

Okay, about the Launch Control thing.
So as I got my car this afternoon, I ran it through and set all of my electronic options for M mode. Mind you, I have driven the car before at its limits from a friend so I had an idea of what I was doing... but as I got closer to the house I was coming up on a set of stopsigns. I wasn't going to take off from the stopsigns, I just wanted to see how the Launch Control was in this car.
Previous to my E55 which I sold for this car, I had an SMGII M3. So I know what SMG is all about and I know how exactly to work it and since the Launch Control method has been explained, I tried it. I had it in full-out M mode and held the shift lever forward in the downshift position, slightly pressed the throttle and...
I moved forward a bit because I was on the throttle.

I thought this was an error, so I tried it again. Again, the same result.
And another 2 times!! Okay, so am I just completely stupid or am I missing something. The dealer was supposed to program the LC in with the 1200 mile service to my understanding and it sure doesn't look like they did.

So, two questions:
1. Is it possible for the dealer to forget to install the LC at the 1200 mile service?
2. Am I missing something here with the whole LC thing?
I mean, I thought I knew what I was doing, but maybe I just overlooked a minute detail.

PS This car is absolutely phenomenal. I now understand why I traded in the E55.

I'm sure you did, but just in case, did you have it in DSC off, S6?

Welcome aboard, glad you like the car! Since the notorious "crippled LC" has been well covered, beaten to *****, and after all it does not work for you, suggest asking the dealer what is the problem.

ive had a couple of instances where it would not work. Make sure your foot is not on the brake when you are pressing the shifter forward. your foot has to be completely off any pedal(gas or brake). As it turns out this simple mistake was causing me confusion.

also s6 took a while to kick in after my 1200 mile service. You may not have it set yet. For a while after the 1200 mile service it would not light as an option(stayed white and not yellow).

good luck.

S6 is available from day one of getting the car, it can be invoked by deactivating the dsc function or through m drive setup (dsc must be deactivated in the mdrive setup too)

L/C becomes active after around 1200 miles automatically, dealer does not have to set it, if it is not working and you are doing it 100% check with dealer

I'd love to hear a detailed comparison of your Z06 and M5. I know they are very different, but I'd like to hear what some of the similarities and differences are, especially related to road feel and handling My dad is a huge corvette fan, and I'm a huge beast fan ( I love both for different reasons ). My dad and my brother both think I've lost my mind as I'd still rather have an M5 or M6 over the Z06. Would love to see pic's of both cars together!!!

Launch control is not automatically enabled at the same time as the 1,200 mile service. There is an algorythm of some kind that enables launch control. In my case, that was about 70 miles after the 1,200 mile service was done.

One word of caution -- the manual suggests not using S6 until after the entire break-in period is complete at 3,100 miles. If you intend to follow the break-in protocol, you may want to hold off.
