M6 06 Interior Design Quality vs 00 M5

Just took the new beast out for another spin today and all I can say is WOW! This car is far more reponsive and far quicker then my 00 M5. Loving the driving, but some issues with the interior design vs the original. Mind you, the comfort seats in the 06 are fabulous and there is no comparison between the two.

- front passenger overhead light (clear) - seems like it came from Detroit. My 00 M5 has a solid, extremely high quality unit - this new light seems like it came from a KMart.
- while the arm rest is very good - opening it while driving seems like an athletic experience. I long for a place I can put some change, a set of housekeys, any odds and ends, other then having to put them in the armrest or in the side pockets along the door.
- quality of construction around the sunroof/SOS button, etc. appears far less solid then my 00. I nearly put a dent in the roof when I went to press the sunroof button and accidently pressed into the roof itself. The original 00 roof was built rock solid - if you tap this one it feels hollow and a bit light
- why do I need the navigation cd on the front dashboard?! Ugh. A total waste of space in my opinion although if that is the price one must pay to have the CD changer in the glove compartment then I will take it.

Don't get me wrong - I bought this car to drive - not for creature comforts. And so far I LOVE the driving experience. Just wishing the new interior designs could progress at the same speed as the engine and electronics. Haven't seen much commentary on these issues - curious what other board members are thinking.

Can't wait to get past 3100 miles to really let her loose.

Also - anyone else disappointed by the absence of netting for the trunk? I was quite surprised there was none. I thought it was great on my original 00 model. The trunk has the four metal hooks - but no netting. When I inquired about it - he just kind of gave me a blank stare.
