Car back from Dealer after Vanos- Evidence of "joy riding"
Brought my car in for the Vanos line recall- Got it back with the dealer's paperwork saying 4662 miles IN, 4663 miles OUT--- however, when I get into my car, the odometer says 4777..... So I go right back into the dealership and get the mechanic and manager. Both of them knew there was no getting around the fact that after the mechanic was finished and after I was told to pick the car up, someone got the keys and took my car for a 14 mile joy ride. God knows HOW they drove it, but lets not kid oursevles. I know they probably hammered my M5.
So I make the manager write down the actual mileage and told him that I demand to know who drove it unauthorized. Manager says they will get to the bottom of it and call me back.
Guys, any suggestion on how to handle it?
Anyone have a suggestion of what I now ask for from the dealer to compensate me?? btw, I'm an attorney and can hammer them back if I really care to. Just looking for compensation suggestions.
god i hate reading that. really annoys me and its not even my car. although i did have that happen to my car. same thing, went in to get vanos replaced, and they put 6 miles on it. not as many as yours, but mine was within the 1200 breakin period, and i'm sure the joyriders didn't observe the break-in rules.
i made a big deal about it. they made some bs excuse like he was testing it. in the end, i gave up pushing them and just walked away very unhappy. either i'm going to go back there and i don't want them to be spitting in my dinner like when you send something back at a restaurant, or i'm just going to go to another dealer.
I also had my car taken for a joyride by the techs. The real kicker is that they did so after over filling my oil, which required the car to have the entire upper end of the motor pressure tested for leaks. Man, was I hot about that.
Other than griping, there really isn't anything you can do about it. The most you might be able to swing is a free install of the phone cradle, aux line or discount on some other trinket. There's not a lot to squeeze when the service is paid by the factory for four years.

well I have them nailed since it was the dealership's own paperwork which exposed the fact that someone took it for a joyride.
still the question is, what should I ask for as compensation? Tires? Money?
What I really want is to get this picture out of my head of some 19 year old moron with grease on his hands burning up the tires on my $100K car...GRRRR
I told the dealer today that I demand to find out who drove it so I can press charges and sue him directly for trespass
I really don't think I'm going to leave mine at the dealership. I'll just wait on it and tell them if they need to "test drive" it, that I'm riding shotgun. The dealership I'm going through will probably only get 2 of these all year, so having it in there will be a real opportunity for the service guys if I don't watch it close. I've already put them on notice that I will be looking at the mileage when the car is delivered and will NOT accept it with "joyride" miles on it.
Problem is, unless they hammer it so bad that they blow it up or something, the damage they do might not be noticable for quite some time. This makes it really hard to determine "just" compensation, when the damage is just potential and at present time, unknown in the extent.
Honestly, if it was me I would probably go for a FREE extension on your warranty to 100,000 miles. If you lease the car, then it's not as big a deal, but I would still go for a payment or two - just for the principal of it.

I understand that odometer says 4677. If 4777 someone done 114 miles...

yeah sorry- typo- it was 4677. again this means that AFTER service was "completed" (which included a 1 mile test drive) someone then took the car out for an additional 14 miles- which was not reflected on the service records
