Took delivery of our new M5 in Novemeber. My 12 year son has been dreaming about this car for 3 years. We sold our 01' M5 last year. All Dinan updates. Killer car. Went through 4 sets of tires and 1 clutch.
This last fall I took our two sons to the Frankfurt auto show. Great time. Very cool cars. Best part of the trip was going to Avis and renting a Porsche Carrera 4S. The auot show was definitely not the highlight though. After the show we raced on the Autobahn up to the Nurbergring. We went with a friend who has taught at the BMW driving school at the Nurbergring for about 18 years. He has always invited me to come over, but I never got around to it.
We spent the night at a B&B and then went to the ring Sunday morning. for about 200 Euro's I bought 25 laps. as we show up there were Ferrari's, Lambo's, Austn Martin's, Carrera GT3's etc, etc,. Oh and some very crazy motor cycle drivers.
I put the token in the gate to let us on the track near the end of the straight away. We pull out, dump the clutch and drive as fast a furious for the nest 8 hours. It was the best day I have ever had with my boy's they had a riot. i gave my 17 year about 4 laps in the Porsche going flap out.
Lap after lap went by. I felt more comforable with the line and was able to increase my time with each lap. 22 Kilometers goes very fast this way.
After about 15 laps, we were taking a break and laughing about all the crazy cars and the dozen motor cycle wrecks on the track. (did I mention the motor heads were completely nuts). As we were taking a break, a brand new White M5 pulled up next to us. It had all the M colors painted all over it. Painted on the side it said "BMW Ring Taxi". It was very cool. I asked the driver what the Ring Taxi was and she told me she would take my son's and I for a ride around the Ring for 170 Euro's. (Did I mention this is the best money I have ever spent for a Taxi). The drivers name was Sabina (not sure of the spelling). Cute blond gal. Races for Porsche. My sons get in the back. I'm in front. She starts the car. Car sounds very quiet compared to my old Dinan M5. We pull onto the end of the race track. she stops. Adjusts a fell setting. Turns off the DSC, presses M, S6 etc. Then she lauches the car. I can still hear my boy's laughing.
For the next 8 minutes Sabina put on a show. She was power slidng at 120 around turns. The car felt a ton more stable than the Carrera 4S I had been driving. It definitely went faster than the Carrera. I was scared at first, but her control and knowledge of the track was unbelievable. Whe went through the gears so fast it was nuts.
My boy's were in the back screaming with laughter.
I was doing the same. Everybody on the track saw her coming and immediately pulled off to the side.
It was the most unbelievable driving experience I have ever had. If you ever get to Germany. Forget about the Museum's and Castle's. go to Avis rent your Porsche (They don't rent M5's) get full coverage and go to the Nurnbergring. Oh. Ask for Sabina!!!!!!!!!!!!!
