Rain Sensor Operation?

It was pouring rain today in Maryland. I tried to use the rain sensor function to no avail. I was wondering if I was using it correctly

When i activated the rain sensor by pressing the button , the wipers didnt run at all.

After turning the wipers to normal and fast speed, i depressed the rain sensor button and then the wipers stopped.

Ive read the manual a few times. Am I missing something? I adjusted the sensitivity as well

Any other US owners with issues with the rain sensor? Im wondering if my sensor is just bad. Ive read where the daylight sensor and rain sensor are integrated. The daylight sensor works fine but the rain sensor seems broken.

Thanks

I would say that you would have to bring that to the dealer and have that checked out. To turn on the automatic wipers you push in the button marked "A" on the stalk and adjust the sensitivity. Then their are you regular wiping modes. If that doesnt work, check to see if there is anything that can be in the way of the sensor in the glass. Call your dealer and have them check this and your Vanos Line as well!!!! How is the car otherwise????

Re: Rain Sensor Operation?

The rain sensor in my "old" E60 (a 530i) never did work quite right - I think it's just incredibly sensitive to a bit of dirt on the glass - if it's still doing nothing in pouring rain, even after you adjust the sensitivity to "kick-start" the system, do get it checked out...

I second this.

I've had the rain sensor feature on my E46 M3 and now on my 645. You have to activate it everytime you start the car and it should work seemlessly after that.

It's one of those features I never knew I needed and now I can't live without it.

OK, OK, I guess I could manage to survive without it.
