Wasn't there a plan to write one letter and include VIN #s, for at least 25 of us?
If we dilute this into individual complaints, are there 25 extremely dissatisfied owners that will take the time to do so?

I sure hope so and as my earlier post indicated, why doesn't someone write one letter that we could download and sign individually. An attorney could chime in here on the power of one letter received 25 times or one letter with 25 vins on the bottom?

Good, let's see some action here:
1. Can we get the letter and collect all the info needed (any volunteers)?
2. I will convert to pdf and send back
3. Group of owners has much more leverage, instead of few individual complaints

Ok I will write the letter. Giving it for others to mail will not work. My suggestion of signing with the last seven VIN numbers will verify that we are owners of the M5. At a minimum that has to be.

I will write the letter tomorrow. Saturday 12/17/05 and begin the process of collecting the seven digits of VIN numbers. When done I will email you the letter as an attachment. We don't need to send it to members and therefore don't need to PDF the file.

If we can agree with that I'll start tonight and have it done tomorrow for agreement about the content.

Two thumbs way up Jim. THANK YOU. Please look at my numerous posts above and in my post on my phone call from BMWNA for my two cents. You can PM me if needed and we could talk live.

Re: Response back from BMWNA re: Launch Control

Here is a letter I just wrote. Use as much as you feel. I will mail this tonight. Is spelling of Tom Purves correct or is it Purvis?

Trying to put a joint letter together would be difficult.

Tom Purves, President BMWNA
PO Box 1227
Westwood, New Jersey 07675

Re: E60 M5 VIN B582230 December 16, 2005

Dear Mr. Purves,

As a thirty-five year BMW enthusiasts I thought you would like to know about a problem I have with my new E60 M5. This car has about 600 miles on it. This car is my tenth BMW beginning with a 1971 2002 in Colorado color. I continue to drive BMWs because of the culture of the people who build them. They obviously love what their doing. I have seen this company grow and succeed for over forty years. I’d like to think I’ve been a part of that success, preaching to the faithful, spreading the word.

My complaint is this: I have information that the Launch Control feature of the SMG does not operate the way it was designed or not at all. That the US model cars will not have this feature as described in your Product Information guide.

Before the first thousand cars were delivered, the company made no effort to disclose the deletion of LC and that some may have not purchased the car had they known that at the time of delivery. And, that in the same time frame, 9/05, the company published confirmation for US cars that they would include LC. Is Launch Control significant? By explanation: This car cost roughly $20,000 more than its predecessor (E39) and in exchange for that cost increase, consumers expected a lot from BMW and the company did not disappoint. One of those improvements or attractions was SMG with Launch Control. This change is not merely a change in colors or tire manufacturers, as we would expect to be covered by the usual disclaimer in automotive brochures. This change took away a bold advance that gave the car is soul and spirit.

Tom, I can tell you of the deep disappointment and hurt the members of the M5 fraternity feel having looked forward to this technological advance and how it was so widely broadcast throughout the automotive world and yet not getting it. What went wrong we ask? Why would the company remove this program? There has been talk of “government regulations” without specifics. Can the program be reinstalled without loss of warranty or service?

I am but one of many who will be writing about this to you, we feel we are entitled to answers. As for me, in mid October 2005 I was vacillating on taking delivery of the car because a change in my plans that meant I would not be using the car during the summer months over the next few years. But then I downloaded a copy of the Product Information guide for dealers and in showing it to my wife and friends pointed to page 26 that described how Launch Control worked. Right then and there I decided to go ahead with it and took delivery on November 15, a full year and a half since I had placed a deposit on the car. Had I known at the time that Launch Control would be deleted I would not have taken the car.

I wait patiently for your reply,

Sincerely yours,

Jim Dolan

Jim-

Great stuff. As you build the letter. Please let us know how to give you our VINs and any thoughts (email, here, whatever). Also, someone suggested they know (or are) a lawfirm. I see no reason why the note can't come from us. BUT, its prob not a bad idea to include in the distribution this lawfirm that we know (and the distribution marked on the letter)

Just a thought.

Thought I'd give this thread a lift w/ a check-in: any updates from the letter-campaign front or communications/acknowledgements from BMWNA?

Cheers,
Dave
