I just traded my AMG for an M5 and you couldn't pay me to trade back. Like a previous poster said, I hated my AMG. What a b-o-r-i-n-g boat compared to the M5...

First of all, glad the HD cops were north of you today on 400 and not by the toll booth. Secondly, I owned an 01 M5, called her Emma, getting rid of it was the biggest mistake of my life, since then I have had a Range Rover, Nissan Titan Truck, 06 330isport, and now a flippin Mini Cooper S Conv that I love. Point is when you see a psycho driving a Mini sideways in North Atlanta it's me.
As for the BMW vs Mercedes comparison, my dad has several MB's and they are great cars, but I there is no comparison between MB and BMW when it comes to pure sport driving, BMW wins all the time.
Lastly, recently divorced, broke as hell, but still #2 on the list at Athens BMW for an M6, have been for over 2 years. If all goes well, I will still be in that car, if not, somebody please take me for a ride in their new M5, I saw a red one up at United in Roswell and nearly fainted. I just don't think money can buy a better car than the M5 (or M6). Just my $.02.
*As for driving up in the NC Mtns, I have an 06 Harley with a 113 in it, which is a blast driving from Highlands over to Murphy and beyond. Might be for sale before long though, only time will tell, that and a whole lot of sales........

my 2 cents on the e55, cls 55 and sl65
i've owned the e55, yes it had raw power but no "road feel" to driving all of the mercedes for that matter. Just power, but somewhat feel disconnected from the road, not the feel of pure fun like it is on a bmw (had 39, picking up my e60 this sat).
the e55 had a lot of problems and recently i saw a sl65 go for way cheap on ebay for the same problem that ended up to be a lemon and that is the engine on some of them crank and crank and does not start up consistently, sometimes cranking for 10 seconds at a time. they replaced my fuel pump switch 3x and it had problems - that is why i sold my e55. i didn't have a good feel in terms of reliability and no Maintenance (free) warranty anymore since 04.
the cls55 looks SWEET! IMHO looks the best to me of all the cars out there around 100k. It feels tight inside (4 dr coupe), don't like the 2 seater in the back (have kids) suspension feels better than e55, different chasis from what i'm told.
sl65 is a monster, starts up and sounds like a jet! super fast, most power out of them all, the torque is ridiculous, but again didn't really feel safe driving the car for because i didn't feel the suspension and the brakes matched the power. almost felt disconnect from the road in a sense (here again with ther mercedes)
can't wait to get the e60, read lots about it, i think i will be dissapointed with lower end torque, but being able to feel the road again is fun for me in a complete car.
