911s or Vantage or M5

It's been some time since I last posted, but always been on the site. Well, I traded my 02 M5 for 745Li a years ago, and it's time to change.

I have deposit on both the M5 and the Vantage.

So, it's time to order the M5. I have a Dec built date and when Aston Martin dealer became aware they were willing to move me up on the list.

M5 or Vantage or the 911S. It seems that all the mags still favor the S over the AV8.

I know I'm on the M5 board, but I value the opinion of all the members on this board. I do have 3 kids, but the wife has a Land Cursier. Never own a "sport" car, but the M5 was awsome and regreted the trade of the past year.

I wish I can have all three, but greatful for the opportunity to deal with my current problem. Thanks for the input.

That would be great to have all 3!! I don't see how you can make a bad decision here. They all have there plusses.

I like the fact that the Aston Martin dealer, when made aware that you are set to order an M5, pushes you up the list.

Good luck on your decision.

i was waiting for the M5 like everyone else since forever. couldnt wait any longer and got an QP. so now, i do not necessarily need another 4 door 'sports' car.
i never really liked porsches, so no 997s for me.
i am on the wait list for the vantage and i have seen the car. waiting for a test drive when available.
if you have 3 kids, it makes more sense with an M5 over the other two. but, if you are keeping the 02, then go for the vantage.

Between the Porsche & the Aston I'd plump for the Vantage.

The M5 is another type of vehicle altogether - more space & more power :)

With three kids, having only one of the two cars in the family that can accommodate them can be a big inconvenience. Unless you will keep the 745 also, I say get the M5.

I was in the same boat. I traded my '00 M5 for a 745Li in 2002, then decided to get a 911 (Carrera 4S Cabriolet) and gave the 7 to my wife. I thought about the AM Vantage, but it does not have a back seat, which is a deal-breaker for me (I have two small boys). I was unsure about the looks of the M5, but I missed the old one almost from the day I traded it. (I have owned 35 cars in the last 30+ years...) Last week I went to my BMW dealer to check out a 650Ci; they had a soon to be delivered M5 in interlagos blue in the showroom, and I thought the car looked a lot better in the flesh than I expected. It was the easiest choice in the world for me. The Aston and 911 are great cars, but I am willing to sacrifice curb appeal for the extra power, space and overall package.

Well this IS an M5board. ;)

But I have owned a 911 (996) and have driven the 997S and I must say, if you don't need the extra space, then you must try the 911 at least once in your life. It truly is very, very good.

It's very stiff and rides very poorly, but you get a level of precision and solidity that's hard to find in the M5. You sit lower, have much less mass to throw around and it's just much more 'racecar-like'.

The M5 is fabulous as an all-rounder, but if you don't need the all-round ability, go for the 911S.

The 997S is a terrific car. The M5 will offer considerably more punch.

funny, I'm in the exact same boat, trying to decide between a 997S and an M5.

I have been leaning M5, as it is much more 'special' than an 997S (I drive an E39M5 now).

That being said, a 997S is iconic, and there is something to be said about getting one at least once. They say the 997S is also the best 911 ever.

I do not think the Vantage will have the same driving satisfaction as the 997 or the M5. But until I drive all of them, I guess its' just conjecture.

definitely go with the m5. vantage will be more expensive than either, and the high horsepower version won't be available for some time. the 911 is quite attractive with less performance, less build quality, rapacious pricing on options, and not nearly the performance of the m5.

Look for my post regarding my "dilemma" around this similar subject. I have a 996 Twin Turbo now and am considering an M5 for practical reasons. Some of the responses I got apply to you too.

You need to decide what you want from the car--these are very different cars (although the Porsche and Aston are closer to each other than the M5).

If you want an awesome 4 door sedan, get the M5. But recognize it is not a sports car--it's a 4,000+ sport sedan--so if it's handling you want, it might not be the right choice.

The new Aston has received good reviews, but the ones I've read still put the Carrera S above it. It is drop dead gorgeous, though, and from what I've seen, the interior is nicer than the Carrera.

If you want the ultimate connected driving experience in a pure sports car you can drive every day, get the 997S (you know...there is no substitute...;)). But recognize that the back seats are basically useless (as I understand the case is with the Aston as well), and it has a glued-to-the-road ride, which to me is a huge positive, but not everybody would find it comfortable as a daily driver.

It's a tough decision...but sure beats a sharp stick in the eye...

I was in the same position a little while age, when I had to chose between the 991S and the M5. I also have kids (two), so I chose the M5 even though my heart was telling me to get the 991S just for the fact that it will be more fun to drive. I made my choice based on my family, and went with the M5 because my family will enjoy the M5 more, even though I would enjoy the 991S more.

Be fair to your kids and get the M5.

Just my 0.02

With 3 kids (I have 4), I'd go M5 (and did). Save the Porsche for later in life.

Me too! Currently I am leaning towards the 997S but I have been flip-flopping between the 997S and M5 for the past 7 months since I saw my first E60 M5. On a purely subjective note I have a hard time with the looks of the E60 both inside and out but love the high revving V-10 and 7 speed SMG. My 2001 E39 M5 will be a tough act to follow.

I don't know what I will do when I get "the call". I’m still up in the air, such a conundrum.

Wow, Thanks for all the input!

I just stopped by the AM dealer...FEB build for APR del!!
or M5 DEC build and FEB del!!

Well, I'm thinking to trade my 7 to my inlaw's for a '97 528 take the extra cash as the down payment for the AMV8, and keep the 528 to use as needed.

I believe paying anything above 50K for a car is an emotional purchase more so than practical, and the Vantage hits me directly at my heart. I did test drive the 911s and was simply fantastic, but I was never a porsche kind of guy. No love, but appreciation of the engineering.

I could simply sit in my garage and admire the AMV8 beauty without even driving it. I had this love affair before with the 02 "Beast". The '06 M5 has it all, but not 100% sure about it's beauty and emotional value. No M5 has arrived in the San Diego area yet for a personal look around, but I'm also running out of time.

Again, thanks

I have a 911 (996) Targa and while it has plenty of power I realize one thing I am a sedan man. I got the Porsche home when I discovered that you had to fold down the jump seats to get one golf bag in the back. I have always wanted one, I got it and I can't wait to get my new car; 2006 M5.

I would go with the AM Vantage. But then I have a RUF BTR.

If I'm choosing a poster, would that be Charlize Theron or Dame Edna? Hmmmm..... tough choice? NOT. ouich ouich

Whatever you get, good luck and enjoy.
