As I've posted, I'm heavily considering the new M5 now. Well, there are some important features that I've seen on other cars that I'm hoping are on the M5.

1) Audio: Does it allow you to play DVD audio or anything in the DVD player besides the Nav? (I'm getting one w/ Nav if I get the car) My Infiniti allows you to put DVD Movie or audio discs into a player and listen to them while driving or watch while stopped.

2) Audio: MP3 CD's - I know it currently doesn't take the iPod input, but will it take CD's w/ MP3 files on it so that one CD holds tons of music?

3) Navigation: Does it allow you to guide it via voice such as inputting addresses via voice, etc? Is the navigation good?

4) Satellite: Can you get XM instead of Sirius? (guessing no)

5) Comfort package: You can get in the car w/o using the key, but you need it to start it? What kind of things can be set on the "remote control"?

6) (last one): Perforated leather... I really want the cooling option, but heard the seats are different with the perforated leather. Is that true?

No, the DVD "player" is the NAV computer, and has no video output capability.

It is supposed to play MP3 CDs

3) Navigation: Does it allow you to guide it via voice such as inputting addresses via voice, etc? Is the navigation good?

NAV is voice controlled. I don't know if you can put in addresses by voice, but it can be controlled pretty well by voice. Pretty good overall, but definitely not one of the top NAV units.

4) Satellite: Can you get XM instead of Sirius? (guessing no)
Not from the factory, but you can always add XM, just like you can to any car.

5) Comfort package: You can get in the car w/o using the key, but you need it to start it? What kind of things can be set on the "remote control"?
You can keep the key in your pocket and start the car. Putting it in the steering column charges the battery. You can save your preferences in the i-drive.

Yes, the seats are much better with perforation. Search for the pictures on this site. They look fabulous!

In the US the DVD slot only reads the nav DVD.

There is no iPod connector available for the E60 yet, so the best bet is to get the aux input installed, and hardwire your iPod--here's a thread with my install:

The in dash CD player (not the CD changer) will supposedly be able to play MP3 CDs with a SW update that's coming shortly.

3) Navigation: Does it allow you to guide it via voice such as inputting addresses via voice, etc? Is the navigation good?

The nav system is fine, although I'll admit I don't use it very often. Here's a link to the 2005 M5 owners manual, which should give you answers to your questions (2006 version not yet available as a pdf):

4) Satellite: Can you get XM instead of Sirius? (guessing no)
No.

5) Comfort package: You can get in the car w/o using the key, but you need it to start it? What kind of things can be set on the "remote control"?

You keep the key fob in you pocket (or briefcase) and it lets you get in and start the car (with a button on the dash). See owners manual for what can be programmed in key fob.

6) (last one): Perforated leather... I really want the cooling option, but heard the seats are different with the perforated leather. Is that true?

Yes--in the US, there are different seats with perforated leather, and standard (non-perforated) leather. The standard leather seat is in black below (and it's also the style shown in the product information guide below, and the US brochure you can get at the dealer), and the perforated leather seat (which is basically the comfort seat with active side bolsters added) is in silverstone:

Also, here's a post with the M5 product information guide, which has lots of detailed technical info:

Thanks for the excellent replies so far!!

Some follow up questions and comments:
The non-perforated seats look to be more supportive (laterally) than the perforated. My main reason for wanting perforated at this point is for the cooling seat function, but given the $4000 upgrade to get perf. and cooling along with losing lateral support, I don't think it's a good move for me.

I'm disappointed that I can't get XM from factory. Is the Auxillary input easily used by a professional to install XM? I know the antenna would need to be changed or added too. Yuck...

I'm reading the manuals and things linked! I'm sure I'll find more questions from those. :)
