Break in for the new M5

Hey guys,

I just got my new M5. Got a question. Is that car already break in by the factory? Becoz I want to pull my car as hard as I want. Do you think it is a good idea to do it? or I still have to follow the factory instruction?

Re: Break in for the new M5

Easy there fella. No, break your M5 in as recommended in the manual. I'm sure they have built in some "margin of error" there so if you push it a little I don't think much harm will come of it.

You may consider actually reading the manual.

Re: Break in for the new M5

I don't like your chances of having a valid warranty if you flog it from the start...

Re: Break in for the new M5

Wasn't there some correlation between improper break-in and oil consumption with the E39 M5s?

I think it's best to resist the temptation in order to increase the longevity of your M5.

EK,

Let's meet up some time with the rest of the HK M5 owners.

Yes, you should follow the break-in procedures in order not to have oil consumption problems in the future.

Hmmmm, so just how many miles do I need to wait in order to say.... drive it wide open from a standstill for just over 1,000 feet?

I believe the owner's manual has decent instructions for break in.

Patience dude! Not only oil consumption but ultimate power production and reliability will be enhanced by properly seating all the moving metal surfaces in the engine and other components.

I would try reading the manual. There's a lot of good info in there.
