Hello Good People:
I just joined the ranks of E60 M5 enthusiasts! Got a 77k mile 2006 and I find it to be a fantastic car. Takes a little getting used to the SMG and I am happiest when shifting the lever manually. The lag in between gears is identical to the lag when shifting a stick so the only difference to me is the absence on an h-pattern shifter and the absence of a third pedal. Otherwise the effect is the same as with a stick. My other cars have paddle shifter as well though using different technologies. No issues going back and forth amongst the group and no need to compare to the others, just enjoying it for what it is. I find the M5 to be a very sophisticated car with tons of features. Had a complete dealer service a upon acquisition in order to establish a baseline. Dealer detected no issues other than uneven wear on one rear tire and recommended replacement of the tire and 4-wheel alignment.
Couple of photos attached. I love this car! I've always admired them on the road and this is the only one I ever experienced as driver or passenger. Fits right in with my other rides.
