First a special thanks to Vito for the gently used new-to-me SC kit and the pretty freaking amazing custom lights :grin
This is by far one of the best things I have done to the E60 and I will say what everyone else has said - this is the way she should have come from the factory. Highly drivable and predictable - nice power curve with smooth power delivery.
I have spent a lot of time to freshen my DD up this year and each thing certainly paid off making the SC even more enjoyable.
much - much faster - but thats not the best part - the TRQ is!!!
She is more drivable and you dont have to always be that madman tearing through town at 5500+ RPM or better to stay in the power band. Still have some small tweaks and the belt slipped at the top end so it makes a little more power but honestly the car is freaking fast ..... 1, 2 and 3rd basically useless and DSC has to be off or traction light just flashes all the time with any right foot heaviness.
Doesn't help that I am running 20X11 in rear with 305/25/20 so very low profile and not a lot of meat to hook
Some of the Best money I have spent on the car -I was worried the SC would take away from NA - the car is just more - if that makes sense all the great things I loved about her are just enhanced and better from the aggressive fuel mapping for the snap crackle pops and the overrun to the acceleration and low end trq the car is just better IMO.
Next mods are CF hood and trunk plus a new rear diffuser and lip - then they next big expense will be a custom low compression build to achieve 700+ WHP
YEP! Including a Eurocharged tune and pulley plus K&N Typhoon Intake system - there is absolutely no comparison to the car before and after
Plus I did everything a stage at a time to make sure since its my DD and i occasionally pick up a client or two at the airport.
I have put 45K miles on her in the last 21 months and have changed out and upgraded so many things - you can look at previous post but this year I have upgraded and changed a lot to get her to this stage - it was all worth it - I cant say enough about her changed demeanor
Remember -
Stock - makes about 440WHP
Full Bolt ons - 460 to 500 ish depending on mods
SC - 570 to 600 WHP - buts its the TRQ you feel and improves the car so much it's Night and Day the difference - my belt slipped at top end run might be closer to 580 but again you are not feeling that difference - 1800 miles on new clutch and SC kit ...... very happy!
Thats funny you say that today a buddy and I went to lunch so of course we were driving her as you should and when we slowed down to 65 for a while all he kept saying was how slow the car felt ........
I saw an M6 with twin superchargers on a half mile track (want to go fast event )and I felt he was really slow. His best top speed was 142. The car was all stock except the Chargers.
IMO it would be pretty challenging to build the system and have brackets cnc'd without specs or kit to mock up - I'm no fabricator and I think the ESS kit not the Gpower is good value for the money the new Gen 2 Ess kit is a 675 - I read all the other upgrades but a lot of it is coming down to the pulley change.
At $9,500 with a tune and established hardware for a new kit - you are guranteed it will work and fit - thats more important to me for my car and my situation as a DD to not have trial and error downtime and wasted money.
However; I don't disagree you could always build something for less - but the only thing you can't recycle is time - if you buy one of these kits your time is probably worth more than the money saved.
I've seen many build SC kits for their BMW. It's not difficult and to get brackets made is not impossible as long you have a good fabricator.
Time I have and Right now I'm doing my clutch and my car is dismantle sitting in my garage for the past two weeks. I'm even contemplating to take my crank out and send it out to get hardened so I can put new bearings in.
Hi guys, I have had my M6 for nearly 18 months and am starting to considering going the supercharged route. I was looking at the ESS 675 kit but recently also found the Gintani kits.
Does anyone have any thoughts or can share experience of the ESS kits vs the Gintani kits? The Gintani kits are a little bit more expensive but seem to put out a little more power. Gintani don't even say how much power their stage 2 kit puts out. How much extra power do you get when you add their methanol injection kit? I'd sacrifice a bit of top end power for a more reliable kit.
Do a search, it has been covered already, the Gintani kit pushes a little extra PSI which is why it shows a little more hp output but both kits use the same blower.
Meth helps but you have to know where to locate the jets or you can actually lose power. There is only so much hp you can produce with the stock fuel system until it runs lean.
