Hi
My name is Arthur, and i have bad experience, with Troy Jeup.

So story started in late august when i purchased 06 BMW M6 with transmission in the trunk, it was supposed to be an easy project. I was thinking i will change the tranny and enjoy the car, but after the car was delivered from sellers place, i saw metal pieces in the intake, it turned out to be bent valve...So i took engine out, it was easy cause previous owner sold good engine from this car and put ****ty engine with a hole in the block and just used couple bolts to hold it, car was missing radiator fan, clutch, headlights, ac compressor, tonns of bolts and screws....Long story short, i have my own repair shop and to rebuild engine is not a big deal for me.
I started looking for engines, and i bought for 2200$ engine with 65.000 miles with spun rod bearing, took engine apart, brought crank to the machine shop, and machine shop offered to weld journals, cut it after and size to stock bearing size. When i was in engine search i saw multiple topics about Troy Jeup and his engine rebuild service, so i called him told the whole story and situation that i have, he told me that he had multiple stories same as mine and that is nothing new. So i asked how much and he offered me to give him 2 engine cores that i have and he will take off 4000$ off engine price plus will throw couple parts that i need. It was supposed to be 2 weeks from the time he received engines

So I shipped two pallets on 9/29/2016 and since that time all i have is a pictures of my oil pump taken apart, and promises to ship ready engine very soon.
Before i sent those 2 pallets i read ALL reviews good and bad, i put myself in his position and was thinking this is all BS and that he is a guy with big heart and he knows what he is doing, he is professional, but turned out that i was wrong.
Never picked up phone from me after , picked up once when i called him from different area phone number, and told me story about moving to the different shop, never replyed my txts...
I asked 3 times Troy in voicemail to send me back everything if he don't want to do it, or don't have time, and i will do it myself cause i am losing time that will nobody is going to give me back.

I posted this topic cause i have to move on and i don't know if he just screwed me up and took for free those engines for parts, just need advice from u guys, i want to resolve this problem, i am tired of hopes and promises.

Sorry you are going through that nightmare. One of our locals guys here almost got caught with a similar situation but he caught on to it quick and did not ship.
But These engines are not that hard to rebuilt. Don't understand why people are so afraid of them. Parts are expensive -that ain't no lie..lol

That ain't no lie. They are no different than any other dohc V whatever. An engine is an engine. Get a good stand, order your parts, have your torque specs. Just because it says BM trouble you, doesn't mean it's NASA. If NASA did build these, these E60's wouldn't be complete garbage.

ZERO. as in zero dollars ($0.00) has our friend Arthur paid for his engine debacle.

It is not a good idea to talk bad about someone who is doing you a favor.:typing:

For one, the two core engines that were sent to me so I can help you get out of a mess - WERE JUNK.

one was blown up and had minimal use other than scrap.

The other had a spin bearing which is workable, but a bad vanes pump and an oil pan that was welded by what looks like a 4th grader.

What I was able to salvage and build, is an engine that is perfect from the work I did and has a Vanos pump that is bad and an oil pan that leaks oil due to a shoddy weld job.

THURSDAY this was presented to you in a phone conversation and you are on a budget so you discussed wanting to roll with it and asking me what I will warranty on the engine still.

Friday I was busy and still was debating sending an engine out that I now consider a huge liability since my name is on it and it has a bad vanos pump and leaks oil out of the oil pan from a shoddy repair.

Here is the deal:

*The favors are over. Your blown the smithereens core motor is at my old shop in the scrap bin which you are glad to have back although it isn't worth the return shipping cost.

*Your two junk vanos pumps will be in a ziploc bag and the engine will have no vanos pump in it.

*You can choose to install one of the two bad vanos pumps yourself, or you can buy a new vanos pump from me for $1950. and install it yourself or I can install it for no cost.

*You will have an invoice tomorrow to your email and your special friend pricing for someone I am trying to help out is gone. You now get the normal pricing that all the other 275+ engine customers of mine have gladly paid for an upgraded s85 5.0L that only I can build.

Do not bother calling me or texting me on my cell because it is at the AT&T store getting all of my 24000+ IMAGES transferred over from Samsung the iphone. Has been there for over a day and it is supposed to be done this afternoon since it was and 26 hour purge.

Have a great day and try to be thankful for things during this holiday season. Custom work takes time and machine shops take time to process work, etc. On top of that I moved my shop for 2 weeks, have 23 m5/m6 here for other customers paying me full price, etc. none of that matters however in this situation because you are ungrateful and I am done being generous to someone who I felt compassion for due to being in and really tough spot financially.

I might be a newbie here TROY JEUP, but you seem a little bit difficult to deal with from what I read in this thread, if that is fact of course.
Firstly, what is with the blunt messages, some of which are awkward to make sense of? If I was asking you questions I would expect more than a blunt simple answer in a text message. As damaged as the engines are, they are not yours to throw away. The customer asked you to do some work on them and advise him on any possible outcomes. none of these outcomes I believe were for him to have two engines that are not in his possession and one of which you are telling him is in the bin. He has invested time and money in your services by having those engines shipped to you. that still doesn't make them yours.
Secondly, if you knew you were moving shop, how come the customer was not informed? Why wasn't this factored in to any estimations or expectations provided to the customer? That's just courtesy in my opinion.
Thirdly, if you came near an engine of mine with what appears to be a wood working chisel that would be the last time you ever came near any of my engines.
Fourthly, stop pretending your the be all and end all of S85 engines. You are by far not the only person that can do the job, you might just be the only one who doesn't have the guts to tell the customer it's not worth it. Plenty of places around the world can fix engines, whether it be a crappy 1.0l 4 pot or these tricky S85 V10's. If the price is right then perhaps many places would help the customer out.
Finally, this guy has a problem with the way you have done business. He has expressed this as is his right to other people in the hope of recieving some advice. All he has got from you is whining about how your no longer friends and the price has gone up now because of it. I don't know how your legal system works over there, but I sure as hell know in the UK you could be sued for this whole debacle.
In all honesty, I think the customer was a fool for taking this amount of work on, especially if he is in a hurry or on a budget. By the sounds of it, this was never going to be even remotely cheap. However, I do think the best outcome from here is that, seeing as your more than likely going to refuse to be helpful, the customer should make arrangements for all of his parts to be sent back to him as they are and you both part ways. If anything, the customer has just lost two loads of shipping costs at the most and you don't have to worry about your godly engine build becoming a sham due to Vanos failure or whatever you are suggesting.

If only the customer would have come onto the forums sooner before all of this and he could have been better advised.

Dear Troy, how exactly i was talking bad about you?
AND WHAT FAVOURS U DID FOR ME????
So far i sent u 2 engines two months ago AND I HAVE S*IT, except text messages, thats what i have.
If person doesn't respond txts does not pick up the phone, what i was supposed to do? Call police?Come to u in person?
Originaly engine was supposed to be 8500$, then you told me u can do it for 7500$ and take my 2 core engines as 2000$ core charge each,so i had to send you 3500$ as we agreed, i explained you condition of every unit that i have sent u, never herd back until couple days ago that u refuse to take one. I wasted my time in hopes of another "genius" engine builder that will help me out.
So, today he picked up the phone from different phone number, and i told him to send me back bad engine (that is in a bin) and send me 2000$ for another engine core that he used for building.
I explained u clearly that i am on a tough budget, with 8500$ i can buy a car from copart or iaai and take engine and many other parts that i need. I am not a customer that will pay 12000$ for your name on the engine...

But personlay what i think, is that u repaired my engine waaaay before, sold it for more money later and just put me on a long shelf cause profit from me is minimal, but as a repair shop owner i can tell u if i say to my customer that repair will cost him 400$ and it will take 2 days it will cost 400$ even if it will be 500$ in parts alone, cause this is business and this is my word.

U r not keeping your word, i would not do business with u ever

So what can i expect from Troy now? Probably nothing, i don't think i will get back anything in return. I don't think he will send me bad engine and i doubt that he will send me $
Thank u Troy for all your FAVOURS, u really "helped me out"

Update.
First Troy told me he is going to send me core engine with hole in the block, and refund me core charge (2000$)

Than he changed his mind and told me that would be fair to send me back engines in same exact condition, that he received from me, on Sunday he texted me that i will receive my both engines on this week, so what do u guys thinks is fair in this situation that i have?
How would u feel to wait for 2 month service that was supposed to take 2 weeks and price that jumped almost twice higher because of my post on m5 board ?
PM me or email me if some one is interested in 2006 m6 shell black on peanut butter with 106.000 on a clock.
missing ENGINE, radiator fan, ac compressor, engine reinforcement.

A very close friend of mine with an E60 in Kansas City had a 2 month ordeal with Troy Jesup. Got an engine that was absolute garbage. I thought there was a lot of over the top accusations but holy hell, seeing the engine and the BS troey sent my buddy Justin through, yeah, Seems like he is a liar, along with his partner. What a shame.

The engine was so terrible that it is in Justin's car and he kept the core engine that I never charged him a core charge for? Have not heard from him in 3 or 4 months so I assume everything is as good as it was when initially driven which is what is expected.:nerd Still haven't received the core or gotten a phone call regarding shipping it back.

What was wrong with it? I got a Troy built motor installed over 2 years ago and it's still going strong, guess I was one of the lucky ones!

From reading the OP's and Troys posts i have come to the following conclusions:

OP: It seems to me like you may have rushed into your acquisition of an M6 and not properly researched what was involved. A little more research yourself might have suggested that your own engines were not salvageable and this has all been a feckless venture. I do however think you have done the right thing in questioning the business you are having with Troy. Regardless of favours being done between you, to Troy, it is just business and there should have been more communication.

Troy: I find you to be quite rude and blunt in your responses. That does not indicate to me that you are a good business to deal with and would put me off completely. That being said, if your facts and figures are true and accurate then you are obviously doing ok in your business. it seems like the overall problem is that you have such a big name for yourself and you now cannot cope with it. Quick question.. If you are that busy yet selling hundreds of engines upwards of $3'000'000 worth, why can't you employ someone else to help? Or at least a receptionist to speak with customers? Also, why couldn't you have simply told the OP all of this weeks ago? He might have understood and been happy to continue on with your business.

To that end, i'm sticking with my original thought. The best outcome here is if the OP makes arrangements to get his engines back AS THEY WERE when they were sent to Troy and he finds an alternative solution to his problems.

Just my 2p's worth. (3-4 Cent's over the pond!)

I have heard enough to know that I would never do business with anyone that would dare talk to a customer like that. I own several businesses and the customer is always right and even the truly wrong ones get respect. For those of you that did get great service it seems you caught him at good times. But he can't multitask it seems and has a god complex about himself and these engines.

I don't know about you guys, but when I need to talk to Troy, have a laugh and ask bunch of stupid questions about an engine he's building and developing. He's there, calls me, explains things to a point that I'm even learning things. Hell he took a whole hour to explain and Answer all of The questions that I had. Even told me the best oil to use. You can't be rude and demanding.

Seems like ymmv depending on day, timing etc.... He has an hour to make no money from one customer but doesnt have 2 mins to tell another customer there is an issue with whatever deal they have. I like my money spent in establishments that are consistently reliable across the board. He might just be the guru some claim and have had no issues with. Do I want to chance it? NO

His text messages talk about himself ...
so another month passed and i have not received anything except text messages and empty promises.
He is professional in promising and finding reasons, i have to give him mad props for that.

So yes Troy u are right, i can not afford S85 "Troy Jeup" edition engine, thank you for your "help" you helped me a lot.

GIVE ME BACK MY ENGINES!!!!

All the times it is said it is going out today, next week, on my way now, they are in my truck to go to the shipper. I don't know how even the happiest customer of his can't admit there is something wrong with that. We are all busy aren't we? But if I tell you I am going to do something today, when do you expect me to do it? TODAY
