What does everyone consider a fair price for a CIC retrofit?

What does everyone think? I feel like a lot of people like the idea of converting to CIC for the sake of compatability, and a more modern touch, but i've seen prices as high as $1,500 for the kit. (screen, radio, controller, 2 cables, USB jack) If you were ready to pull the trigger on a kit, what would be a fair price to you?

For those who have done it, what did you pay?

With my 10 year old 2006 E60 M5, I would be willing to pay $1000 for a kit that was completely turn key with full installation instructions.
Reasonable assumptions would be that the installer has a computer with the correct BMW software tools to perform any coding needed, but instructions on what to do with the software would be included. Another assumption could be that the installer would be required to modify the CCC compatible interior trim between the driver and passenger seats to accept the new CIC controller (I-Drive knob unit) but that some kind of tape-on dremel template would be included to help with this process. (Again, another assumption that the buyer has access to a cutting tool.)

Right now, due to the high pricing of CIC kits, I have gone the route of installing an AUX input port for my CCC system, and a ProClip.com cell phone mount to hold my cell phone and serve as my GPS/music/podcast hub.
It partially blocks an AC vent, but for very little money, comparatively to the CIC kit, it serves the purpose.

However, I always prefer stock looking mods when it comes to updating the interior with new tech. Having a faster, more responsive infotainment system with a more recent and easily update-able GPS system would be something I would pay $1000 to have. CCC to CIC would be great for $1000!

I have looked at these systems for my 2007 M6 and have never felt that the ~$3000 price tag was justified. So as for price, I think $3000 is too much. If it were $1000, then I probably would have already done it (especially if it included installation).

So for me, the value is somewhere between $1000 and $3000 (much closer to the $1000 price point).

I made a new contact the other day who specializes in used BMW parts who may have a nice enough price point on his stuff to start making this retrofit affordable; will have to see what happens. The problem for us (compared to the e9x guys at least) is that the e6x CIC was a 1 year only part, making it really hard to find and not so "dime-a-dozen".

Come to Orlando. I can do it for about $3500 installed. I've installed 4 NBT. 3 E60 and 1 E90.

I would pay < $,2000 if everything worked and looked OEM.

$3k is crazy for a consumer electronics modification on a car at least 8 years old now.

$1500-2000 with all the parts including coding but without installation and combox is reasonable. i've heard people get CIC, screen and controller for less than a 1k specially from junkyards.

I personally charge $600 to install CIC retrofits and i have a network of installers where they charge at least $750. Once you factor CIC + Combox + installation it makes more financial sense doing the NBT. At least you kinda get the latest and greatest.

I will soon be testing Idrive 5.0 which is the one that came out in the new 7 series and has carplay support in a E60. Here's how it looks on a F30

2K for CIC is not prudent for 8-10 yr old chassis when you can get NBT for just under 2k.
I think 1K is a steal for CIC on the low side ( i think this is where most are) and high side maybe 1.5k. IT is all about how CIC is priced.
3k for CIC defies common sense when same price as KW V3 Coils but what do i know.. maybe staring at CIC screen all day is more important than car performance

Great price. it's only missing the emulator which i can code without it.

I get the CIC, but what's NBT?

at this point, full CIC systems should cost only up to $1k including combox and coding. These cars are way too old and the people buying them at this point are 2nd, 3rd and 4th owners.

i think demand is soft on CIC given the price point. the upgrade looks better and is faster but 90% of the upgrade is aesthetics. with maintenance on these cars (particularly ///M models) being so high, thats a lot of money to toss to the side on a radio.

i personally have had CIC and sold my system after i got it installed. it just wasnt worth the money and I got mine installed and coded for roughly $1500 (at the time they were much more expensive)

i think once someone offers them for a more reasonable price and plug & play install, the demand will rise...yet the prices should continually fall. its not the cash grab it used to be...

cant speak on NBT bc i never really paid much attention to it but Nelson29 is def the guy to ask about it...he's the authority on said topic

Bro that will probably never happen. E60 CIC are harder to find than NBT system. Keep in mind that the E60 CIC was produced for only 1 Year. I can find a better deal on NBT hardware than on CIC.

I agree with you that CIC is definitely not worth it. It's already 7 years old. NBT or NBT Evo is the way to go. You know what's funny we already started testing Idrive 6. It's the new Idrive that will be in G30s.
