Euro SMG and my alterations in the DME do two different things, but are fully compatible with each other.
The Euro SMG is a firmware change in the SMG computer. It alters some of PID parameters in the actuation mechanisms for the solenoid valves.
The SMG tables in the DME are maps which direct the speed, force, etc of individual shifts based on engine RPM and pedal demand.
To sum that all up in layman's terms, the SMG firmware sets the *max* limits of what the SMG can do. The DME maps then alter *how much* of max the DME tells the SMG to do.
Edit: There are some incompatibilities I've come across of late with PT-CAN communications between the SMG and DME when a recent Euro version is flashed and the DME still contains an older US version. Just as the SMG firmware can be updated, I recommend having the DME updated as well to be at version 160E.
If I update my DME to a newer version than when I got my tune will I need a new file then or can I just reload the original that was sent?
