Excellent review as always Randy, thanks.

Nice dynos, too. Looks like the high temp was wreaking havoc and you still put down those numbers while it was pulling timing as redline approached.

That first datalog looks like fun Closed course professional testing ;-) is expensive.

What about that 3.91 and the trap speeds you recently posted from Shift Sector?
Do you think the speed would be higher or lower with stock diff ?
Does this improve 1/4 mile traps and i guess you would recommend for low speed rolls and track and driveability reasons ?
Please report constant RPMs in a couple of gears if you could.

I know you must have been biting your tongue HARD watching the guy drive your SMG telling you it not working right.......

I am not comfortable at ALL leaving the SMG for any service personnel to drive,, even at the few low points in life i have been to BMW with my E60.
"This is an SMG. You know how to drive one of these, right? It's not an automatic."

It is usually comical until you realize the dude is about to drive your car through the wall

It's cheap when you're in Mexico

I think the trap speeds would def be lower with a stock 3.62 diff because I wouldn't be accelerating as fast. I top out in the same gear (I think 5th or 6th) every time at Shift S3ctor ever since I started going a few years ago.

You're referring to if a 3.91 would improve 1/4 mile traps? Yes, definitely. I recommend a diff upgrade for the E6x M5/M6's period. They should've come from the factory like this (I know everyone says that about tunes, but really, the 3.91 helps A LOT with low-end tq).

Yeah...he did like 20 pulls, none at full throttle, but also abandoned many before even hitting 4k RPM. I almost wanted to bust into the dyno room and just wave my hands around to cut it off.

Thank you, sir! Finally some datalogging to back-up dyno claims, yeah? You definitely should give Jim a call before you're done w/ your vacation so you already have something waiting for you by the time you get home

How would you compare this to the Euro SMG coding? I'm assuming you are still running NA SMG coding?

I am very interested in this answer as just ordered a Fast Attack tune and am expecting the hand held device to be delivered tomorrow. I already have the Euro SMG coding and absolutely LOVE it (some of my past threads have pointed out that the Euro SMG is my single favorite mod and the one that impacts my day to day vehicle use the most) .

Euro SMG coding just smoothens out the shifts and doesn't make them as boggy. Jim's tune complements the Euro SMG coding by maintaining the smoothness, but at the same time making the shifts themselves faster. So I have smooth and faster shifts now.

Thanks Randy, that is exactly what I am hoping for. This is one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on the Fast Attack tune. There are plenty of tunes that can give you 25 extra ponies on a stock motor, but faster smoother shifts too??

Yeah, I think power wise the S85 tuners all probably offer the same range of power gains. But Jim had grown an obsession with the S85 platform and studied it meticulously and was able to uncover a few extra features/tweaks that other tuners didn't seem to be offering so I went for it. Very happy I did!
