What is happening with BMW they just increased single Vanos solenoid to cost more than $1200?

I am really frustrated with this company

You're absolutely right. My old plan was 36months / 30k miles from 41k to 71k. I am however at 65k miles (06MY) - they have covered over $18,000 with $100 desuctible in the past 2 years. Also, old plan cost $3800 ($161 a month). The reason why I got another plan from Carchex is because the first warranty plan is done paying out for claims - they only pay for up to 80% of the value of the vehicle and of course they lower the value of the cars (they do not use nada or kbb) so they don't have to pay much. In case my engine blew up - I want to make sure I am covered. Also, I tried for my warranty to do my rod bearings and they said they do not cover preventative maintenance.

Anyone else notice the 400% increase in price for

VANOS Solenoids?

I was looking at prices today. I found a bunch around US$400. When I went back later, the prices were > US$1200. Some places were charging > US$1500 for the part. It's like something was following me around, jacking up the price where I went.

I found some at AutohausAZ at a decent price and ordered 2 to put in my parts cupboard. A few hours later they notify me that they don't have any and that the are on backorder with no expected delivery date. In other words, anyone with an issue going forward with VANOS solenoids is going to be S.O.L.

I found some at lower prices today and when I went back, I found that the prices had gone up 400%. I was also told that they were on backorder with no delivery date. I had an order in for an attractive price and several hours later the order was cancelled suddenly. What a PITA. :(

If there is no delivery date, then the manufacturer is not making them on a regular basis and I think a lot of people are going to be SOL when their Solenoids get scrambled with dying rod bearings.

I guess Troy or JColley are snapping them up where they find them. :D

Nope, I won't support that model at all.

Prices are changing as websites incorporate ETK data from BMW for the 7/1 release of pricing data. As always, ECS will be the first to update, I use them as my reference for retail pricing so I can calculate my own cost.

I have been discussing options with a few people today. I think an aftermarket manufacturer is needed to step up here, but not certain it makes sense for me to move in that direction right now. Finding an alternate source of solenoids is a stopgap measure to why they fail in first place and that is where I would rather focus effort. There is a reason the S85 eats these and the S65 doesn't. Causal analysis and confirmation will lead us to the answer.

Assuming that they have some when you buy them. I found another place with cheaper prices and I'm still waiting to hear "Um. Sorry. Our inventory is wrong." There seems to be a lot of that lately.

I'm sure that there are more E60 M5s than E39 M5s, yet we seem to be the ones struggling to get parts. I now wonder if every auto parts mfg'er out there sold the 'M' company a bill of goods in the form of products that they just wanted to get rid of and never make again.
