Well... The more S85 engines blow up the more valuable the left over vehicles become. Ha!

That is why I love the older raw BMW and Porsche with naturally aspirated engines, RWD, hydraulic steering, mechanical suspension, and far less computer aided gadgets.

They are far more enjoyable to drive (60-mph feels like 100), road feel, awesome engine sound, and easier to fix.

The e28 was also lighter and stiffer than the e24 counterpart, which made for a better canyon carver and faster 'bahn stormer:grin

One reason I like the s85 so much: the s85 feels/drives/reacts exactly like the s38. In order to get speed, you have to know how to manage your rpms. Mashing the pedal in an s38 or s85 does not work -- it's not supposed to work that way. Find the sweet spot when the camshafts are "on" and stay there -- the engine changes from the reserved Dr. Jekyl to the b@tsiht Mr. Hyde:devil

Although never truly M badged, the 850CSI will appreciate like one, with low miles especially.

My 850i led to the M6 ownership (although the M6 was kind of accidental).

Still miss that car.

My e34 M5 is by no means a pretty example. At some point in it's life it was kept outside long term in the SoCal sun and the clear coat gave up the ghost years prior to my ownership. It's totally gone on the mirrors and back part of the roof. The hood and trunk still shine but it's hazy. The previous owner to me did an excellent job bringing it back mechanically and I made sure the interior was brought back. Now don't get me wrong, I really like my e39 M5 on longer drives but the e34 brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.

As far as value to me goes, if someone offered me $30k for the Euro LHD e39 I'd probably take it. That same amount does not buy the 93 e34, even with it's 235,000+ miles on the clock.
