recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

Autocar said the following in the end of year review regarding the m5
'the BMW m5 is the most remarkable car on the planet. The breadth of its talent is unprecedented. No other car fuses so much performance, dynamic ability, room, practicality and so much detailed comleteness in such a stunning(Albeit soberely suited)way.'

IN the same issue they drove an Alpine b5 and gave it a magnificent review ,even going so far as to say that he (adam Towler) would choose it over the m5 ,he claimed it more comfortable, its power is more accessible and its better looking.

THe alpina will be a magnificent second hand buy because they are a license to lose money over here.

Re: recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

B5 looks great.

It may actually have more power than the M5 (comments from Alpina engineers)and will certainly have more potential for tuning.

It also has more torque and an auto, so it's a different type of drive and appeal, not so hard-core, but more GT.

As for the losing money, I'm not sure it's any different to an M5. The V8 Alpinas for sale currently from official dealers and privately look to be almost identical prices to similar age/mileages M5s.

I think if you look to history Alpina cars will hold more value then M cars.

Re: recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

That is an impressive review, I must read that one. I wonder if the Alpina B10 V8 hilds value better than the M5? Im sure the B10 V8 S will, but Im not sure about the "non-S".

The Alpina B5, V8 (4398 cm³) with 500 hp and 700 Nm (suck on that M5!), 1720 kg and 0-100 km/h in 4,7 secs.

Stealth M5!

Nice interior! "M5" with automatic

But I think the V10 is more

Re: recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

the alpina is closer to the e55 spirit... low end grunt, low(er) redline, easily tunable to more hp if desired, yet it preserves the bmw reflexes and feel.

the b5 will be easier to drive and will not be as sporty as the m5. besides, when the new e55 debuts with the 530hp na engine, the b5 will be up to the challange very easily (while the na v10 would prolly have to spin another 500 rpms )

i think it will appear to a slightly different crowd and it is poised to be cross-shopped by the merc crowd...

nice targeting imo.

Re: recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

The M5 is an icon,a got to have one no matter what.i always wonder, does really BMW practice pressure on ALPINA not to produce cars more powerfull than the M cars?, if so, then what is the point of ALPINA? is there really an edge between the current M5 and Alpina for the customer to consider when choosing? this is dull!!
and if BMW doesnt force any pressure on ALPINA, then when will they rise to the level that AMG did rise to relative to MB.

Talking about MB'S, you got AMG, LORINZER, CARLSSON, BRABUS and many more, and they all produce/tune top end MB's with head cracking performance.Let alone the different bodykits and the variety of customization each one of them offers. On the other hand, what do we BMW fanatics have?? AC SCHNITZER, hoof, i almost forgot that name, what are their power/ torque figures anyways in comparison to the giants stated above. ALPINA, extremely classic designs and still going with the first book of tuning they ever had, they just dont evolve, not that i dont like it, but still. who else, HARTGE, take a big M Engine, fit in a smaller car, WOW!!

I hate to say it, but we are far behind MB's giants. It kills me everytime i see an sl55 AMG, or the lorinzer CL. i wonder when will pandoras box open, and this ice melts.

Re: recent write ups and Alpine vs M5

"Clocking my persistent gaze at the B5’s headline figures of 493bhp and 516lb ft of torque in the bumf, he let slip that those numbers were achieved while hot-weather testing in Dubai: ‘those are a minimum’. Today, with dense, freezing air feeding the forced-induction engine, it should easily improve on them."

i like that interior:
