The issue with sunroofs is they add considerable weight, especially the glass ones, and this weight is at the highest point in the car. That said, I still want one.
Relax - you can be sure that BMW of North America LLC and BMW Canada Inc. will order each and every M5 with a sunroof. Do you know why I'm so sure? I know that they'll make me pay something like $200 to have the sunroof deleted (I like the additional headroom).
My guess is if the factory offers a sun roof as an option then BMW NA will spec the US M5s with it. If you wanted a US M5 without it, and you were buying it you might be able to do it or if you were leasing you might have to pay a little extra (I know that sounds strange, but its to cover the expected drop off in residual value). The M5 is not just a sports car, I think they would be out of their minds not to offer the sun roof.
