Hi,

I just ordered a set of Pilot Super Sport Tires (255/40-19 & 285/35-19) for $1,258.00. No warnings of out of stock, we'll see tomorrow when a human sees the order.

Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport Tire from Olin Mott Tire Stores

The tires need to be chosen specifically, the choose by vehicle for an M5 or M6 has the wrong rear wheel size.

I ordered those for my E60 550i and E39 M5. My E60 had Continentals but I hated them and the E39 had PS2. PSS are awesome! I felt a change for both cars but especially the E60. I felt more grip and less noise. Heres my specs:

Style 172
Wheel Size: 19″
Tire Size: 245/35R-19 (front)
275/30R-19 (rear)

I purchased my tires from sears. Michelin had a rebate going on at the time and I bought both sets. Both the cars were about $800.00 each. Sears gave me rewards and Michelin $150.00 in rebates. Some shops were quoting me as high as $1,200.00 for each. Crazy...

You guys do know that if you downsize from 285/35/19 to 275/30/19, you're messing up the speedometer, right? Instead of doing 65 mph, it's actually 61.7 mph.

Style 172
Wheel Size: 19″
Tire Size: 245/35R-19 (front)
275/30R-19 (rear)
This is ok because both are within oem setup for both front and rear.

You don't want 255/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear.

Others have already mentioned this, but you would have probably been better with downsizing the sizes a little as they run larger than normal. 275 rear is the same as most other manufacturers 285's.

I haven't received them yet. :-(

I did receive the front. I needed tires so I bought a used set of Super Sport and had them installed with the front.

I have called Michelin twice, the latest was last week. They can see production four weeks in advance. There is nothing scheduled.

I left the order open at Tire Rack, hopefully the used tires will last long enough for the new ones. The guy I talked to at Tire Rack seemed a bit annoyed at Michelin because Tire Rack ran some promotions.

Oh, the other thing, I installed 285's in the rear with no rubbing. I still have a warranty so I haven't lowered the car or anything.

Michelin A/S 3 ~ I don't know if they are in stock. The A/S 3 is stickier than the old PS2, better in the rain and colder temps than PSS, and longer life than the PS2 and PSS.

BFG Rivals ~ I was looking at BFG Rivals for my stock wheels...BUT...it's a big but...the Rivals are more of s track tire.

Not great for rain and cold, compared to the A/S 3 or PSS, but a good dry tire. If you only want dry grip for, and not quite an R-Compound tire for the street, the Rivals are not bad. Don't expect too much tread life.

They are the replacements for the first gen DWS.

From when I spoke with TireRack about them for my other vehicle they have better dry/wet traction and handling compared to the first generation DWS.

The first generation was already excellent.

If your budget allows maybe consider the Michelin A/S3 as another option for an all season tire.

Just one thing I want to add.. There have been a few comments about the A/S3 not being able to handle deep snow as well as the DWS. I ended up going with the DWS because during winters in Texas sometimes we can get a lot of snow unexpectedly. No need to purchase dedicated winter tires down here since it doesn't last long.

I'm on the back order list for PSS's at TireRack. No stock here in Australia for the rears at all. Loads for the fronts though. Rears available mid December I'm told.

Interesting. The PS2's I'm currently running are rubbish by comparison with the PSS's I had on my E46 M3 previously. Perhaps they've gone off with age.

Dont know about wear and tear, but I just replaced PSS on my stock 19" rims which are going to be used for spring and late fall with DWS's. I miss the PSS, just not the same feel, noticeable grip loss. Only did it because I need an AS setup between winter and summer. My 20s with summer tires will be going on soon.

I have some 18 month old 285's with 8/32 left on them that I don't need anymore. Considering the rarity I should be able to sell them for more than new right LOL. :wink

My contis have seen better days and have covered 10,000 miles and 2 track days. At the
last track day I overheated the fronts and they have worn unevenly in the middle (melted). I'm just wondering if the car will feel much better on new PSS? . I think the main problem I have is I've been running around in my wife's new GTI which is so pointy and go cart like with great turn in and then I drive the M5 and it just doesn't turn in so well, I know it's the size of the car but I'm hoping it will drive better on new PSS?
Is it worth buying them even though I could squeeze another 2000 miles out of my Contis?
