Trigger relay or other accesories with M button

I searched but it is tough to get the wording right. If I wanted to have the M button trigger a relay so i could say, open exhaust cutouts etc, has anyone done that?

Think of all of the things that happen when you push the ///M button. There are tons of transistors that are switched with a single press. Piggyback onto one, use it as a control side of a relay and you can control whatever you want. I am currently working on ///M mode enabled by default by recognition of key in the ignition. (Programmable with M_KEY_MEMORY coding string in the cic)

Thanks, I am shopping for a pair of electric exhaust cutouts, and it would be nice to have them tied into the OE switches somehow I realized I always drive with the power at 500S but maybe it would be nice to have the exhaust tied into the M button or the DSC, so I can choose "neighborhood mode" when I want

There are also a string of CAN messages on the primary CAN bus triggered when the M button is pressed. I built a small CAN sniffer with an Arduino and logged a specific series of events. My goal was to do the same with cutouts, but haven't found a pair reliable enough yet to withstand the cycling.

Any interest in E60 CAN bus code hacking?

Hey hoping to resurrect an old thread.

Did anyone ever find a way to do with with the M Button I am also hoping to do the same thing with some exhaust cut outs and a relay/trigger.

Thanks
James

Hi James,

I'm also in the UK, near Peterborough.

I'll do some development with my M5 this weekend. I should be able to knock up a small can-bus module to control exhaust valves based on the M button or perhaps when the car is in P500 mode.

Would you be interested?

Thanks
Kev

I'd be down for one as well. Presumably you just need to dump the frames when you hit the button and grab the identifier.

There is a specific M mode button message. Not sure what would happen if you just fire this onto the CAN bus. It may be that the source gets out of sync. But it may be enough to kick the M button by itself. Put an Arduino somewhere in the car to spoof the car. Crude but it might work.

It should actually be the opposite of this, listen on the CAN-BUS for the specific M Mode message and then use this to trigger an output to open exhaust valves or whatever you fancy. Listening to the bus wont upset it, unless you get bus speeds or termination wrong
