New Cadillac CTS V PLUS

Check out latest edition of Autoweek. Cadillac is coming out with a 600HP CTS V. I WILL be visiting my old Cadillac dealer tomorrow. I will try and test drive a CTS V and see how I like all the features. By the way MSRP is supposed to be $65K.

Had 3 Caddies before my first M5 and may go back.

I really don't like the exterior styling of the CTS-V. It reminds of a Transformer robot-car character from the 80s cartoon and toy.

Re: New Cadillac CTS V PLUS

true- but put it in a car that many say drives nicely and you have something. they are smart to build this car- it will be in limited quantities- it will really increase brand image. HP does matter to the manufacturers- BMW is gonna need the HP to sell the E60 M5. Would you consider the E60 with a retuned S62 producing 430bhp. Same weight as E39, more controversial looks & controls, similar power..... Then theres the matter of price. I think Caddy is doing some very good things for themselves. I will never get over the CTS' styling though.

Re: New Cadillac CTS V PLUS

Very intriguing. I wonder, though, if the standard CTS-V suffers from severe axle hop under hard acceleration, how the heck is it going to handle 600 hp?

Also, I have read that the manual tranny is notchy and not in the same league as the M5. They gotta get this right before I seriously consider the car.

If Caddy does works out the kinks on this new model, this could be the 'poor' man's M5.

Re: New Cadillac CTS V PLUS

It would be that- but things like a notchy tranny might be the trade off for the price. the axle hop severity varies depending on who you ask.

I agree, they are losing the battle before firing a shot. So much information is out LONG before the car sees the streets, so all of the competition already knows what they need to do to counter M.

I seriously gave the CTS a look before I bought my 530i. While in a different league even in 02, you could tell then that Cadillac was making a push. It was a nice car that drove well.

It is also very narrowminded to rule out Caddy because "My grandfather drives a Caddie". If they come to town with a M5 beater.... that drives as well, and has the same (or better) fit, finish, quality... only a fool would automatically dismiss it because it is a Cadillac.

Little things like notchy shifters are very easily fixed in these cars. Even wheel hop can be fixed, and as they sort out the chassis, I am sure they will.

And HP does sell cars.
