Any idea of engine specs? I read in another article it'll feature a small block V8 from the upcoming C6 Corvette Z06 which will supposedly produce 500HP.

Caddy is obviously trying to redefine itself with a number of bold moves. If they really want to get serious about the luxury performance sedan market, they need to look at BMW M and Mercedes and copy a lot and innovate from there. It takes more than an engine to compete in this genre - the car just cannot feel "Detroit."
As CEO of GM, I might do something really bold like transfer Corvette from Chevy to Cadillac, or at least have Caddy offer a premium version of the Corvette. I would certainly find ways to foster technology sharing and transfer as Caddy has a lot of catching up to do still.
No one's mentioned that, in the past, GM discouraged the other divisions from building any cars that were faster than or had more HP than the Corvette. That would have the new CTS-v + equipped with a 490HP V8(unless there's a 600 HP corvette in the wings)

Check out latest edition of Autoweek. Cadillac is coming out with a 600HP CTS V. I WILL be visiting my old Cadillac dealer tomorrow. I will try and test drive a CTS V and see how I like all the features. By the way MSRP is supposed to be $65K.
Had 3 Caddies before my first M5 and may go back.

well the folks in LA are imagine oriented (every so slightly) and BMW still steals the show. I do not pretend to be as informed as many here, though my knee jurk reaction to this is thats good for the first year or two then those cars tend to deteriorate. For those who are binary, HP is cool. Chrysler too is moving up the food chain on HP. However the real thrill in my mind is the absolute terror/thrill I get when slamming trough a corner at full throttle. I trust my M5 to carry through it with dignity and of course understanding from my fellow Los Angelianos. Not clear how they would react to someone in a Caddy. Remember, its image ;-)

the new cadillac is 400 HP not 600 or 490 and thanx
The standard CTS-V puts out about 400 hp. The new limited production model being discussed here is speculated put out substantially more. Whether it is 490 or 600 I don't know.
true- but put it in a car that many say drives nicely and you have something. they are smart to build this car- it will be in limited quantities- it will really increase brand image. HP does matter to the manufacturers- BMW is gonna need the HP to sell the E60 M5. Would you consider the E60 with a retuned S62 producing 430bhp. Same weight as E39, more controversial looks & controls, similar power..... Then theres the matter of price. I think Caddy is doing some very good things for themselves. I will never get over the CTS' styling though.
i never heard that the caddy CTS V drives nicely...
certainly it is nice to see an american brand moving upmarket in this segment; but in this segment, i hardly see people price compare one car to another. you buy an M5 or E55 or RS6 over another for more personal preference than price issues.
perhaps i should paraphrase the initial response to : "hp is not everything; it's still a caaadillac".
it's perfect if you like that sort of cars.
but it is hard to imagine it will steal sales from BMW or MB when owners are used to german or european sedans moving to an american sedan. it has to be more convincing than having a lot of hp or torque. i cannot even begin to imagine the disappointment if you move from any german sedan into an american sedan.
perhaps caddy will get some of their truck / bling bling owners into getting one with the help of some rapper MTVs.
whatever u do its still Cadillac and u cant compare it to the german cars BMW is the best sedan in the world and the new E60 M5 will hit the market i'm sure..
