Re: bmw 535d
Sounds good.
Apparently the second stage turbocharger only engages at higher speeds so the car remains very fuel efficient.

Re: bmw 535d
Is this really true, and if so when will it be launched???
560 Nm max torque is really something and 0-100 in 6.6 sec for a diesel...

Re: bmw 535d
Those are very impressive numbers. I prefer regular gas engines, but if I lived in Europe my opinion would be different I suppose. Modern engine technology is fantastic.

Re: bmw 535d
BMW... PLEASE bring this car to the states.
I will buy.. I promise!
BmwNut, have you checked out the diesels in Europe? They are much better than the junkers here. Course.. 95% of diesels here are trucks..

Re: bmw 535d
Havent driven any BMW diesels, and that is a shame. I really want to have some hands on experiance with one, as I am pretty ignorant when it comes to the experiance. I have heard sound clips of BMW diesels, and for the most part I think they sound great, but with normal gas engines like the S62 diesels and BMW's seem like a moot point, but then again I live in the US.
The only diesels I have driven for any length of time was a Dodge Ram, and a gargantuan Ford F650 bucket truck.
The thought of a refined engine getting gas mileage like a modern diesel is fantastic, and I would love to try one.

We go over at least every other year. I originally had the same opinion and only wanted a gas engine. After getting abused at the pumps, I buckled and got a diesel. Needless to say, I was impressed. And it was not a BMW. The engine was much smoother than I expected. There was much more power.
The diesel BMWs over there really haul...

Re: bmw 535d
That torque figure is very attractive. And with a chip I can see it going up and up.

Re: bmw 535d
Although the diesel engine in my E60 530d is very good, it still makes more and uglier sound than the engine in the 530i. But the fuel consumption gives us runs from over 1050 km (650 miles) before the car needs to be refilled.
And when the 535d comes out, I sure will ask my dealer for a ride.
Question that comes to my mind: where is the engine from the 740d? Would be nice, that 8-cylinder in the E60.
