        M5 500hp and M5 CSL 550hp?

Found this article on http://www.autobild.de/aktuell/neuhe...rtikel_seite=3 , I'll try to translate it.

It tells about the change of engines in the M-series: M3 from 6 to 8 cylinder-engine, M5 from 8 to 10. Figures for the new M5 will be 5,0 litre, 500hp and 550Nm and SMG-6. 0-100 km/h in 4,5 seconds.

        Nothing new so far, but...

But it also reports about the M5 CSL, with lesser weights and a 550hp engine.
Maybe thats the reason that there are different stories going around about the right figures of the M5 engine.

        Guust

ps The story tells also that the new M5 will be introduced in Detroit, januar 2004. So they have 3 days left from now on... ;-)

        Re: M5 500hp and M5 CSL 550hp?

Thanks for the information. I dont know if I really understand a M5 CSL since doesnt the "C" stand for "coupe"? And isnt the 5 series a bit of a luxury car? What are they going to do? take out the a/c and the rear seats? If they take out idrive I might just be interested

I propose BMW do the following:

        M5: 550bhp
        M6: 550bhp
        M6 cabrio: 550bhp
M6 CSL: give the engine a little bump to maybe 575bhp, it would be lighter and would be more in the mission of a coupe like the 6 series. That would be one mean machine. They could tune it very aggressively since the regular M6 will be a great performance car.

Doesn't the "C" in "CSL" stand for Coupe? If so then how can a 4 door sedan be a CSL? M6 CSL yes but M5 CSL

        Ahhh great minds

How about a M5 SL? I wonder if MB would be happy about that? They do have what they call the "M" class- but they named it ML on purpose presumably out of courteousy for BMW's "M".
