Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
550bhp because of marketing needs
claimed 4.5 because its a nice round number. my guess is maybe they will be a little conservative and it really does it in a tad less with SMG or a good shifter.
0- time to my garage is: infinity since it will never ruin my garage with the Bangle look thats soon to be hopefully replaced by some class.

Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
I have long stated that BMW needed to hit the 100hp per liter mark.. so if the engine is 5.5L (last rumor circulated I believe), it needs to hit that mark at least.
If it is 5.5L, I expect no more than around 400 foot pounds of torque. If 5L, the current rumored numbers similar to the S62 sound about right.
Much like the e39 M5, I suspect in practice the car will be faster 0 to 60 than claimed.

Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
I'm saying 4.3 to 60, once people learn to launch it. Maybe even faster. BMW needs to upstage the AMG clan, so I'm sure the 60 might be less. TQ will prob be around what the current S62 has, but it will make it on a longer and flatter curve. 1/4 mile in low 12's. Only time will tell....

Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
am i missing something? may be the SMG produces consistent launches each and every time for 0-60 measurements but otherwise, 0.1s differences (or even more) in 0-60 are very commonly found in various testing conditions and reports. some manufacturers are more conservative in publishing their numbers as well.
i think 500hp vs 550hp is quite tangible but most ppl cannot feel the 0.1s difference between 4.3s and 4.4s and it is only on papers. 4.3s vs 4.6s, i certainly hope it is at the quicker end!

Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
I think they'll get it at nearly 4.0 flat. Maybe difficult to get traction to do that - but they will find a way to beat the E55. If the E55 can do it in 4.3, and is way heavier, why can't the new M5 do it in 4.3 or less? Come on, 469hp verses 555?
E55 weight: 4,087 lb
545 weight: 3,748 lb
That's more than 300lbs lighter - (of course we don't know the actual weight of the M5 yet, or the actual hp & torque...)

Hey im not here to say what really will or will not happen. Lets hear it all as everyone is free to say or think anything they wish. The wilder it is, the more exciting the anticapation is

Re: Whats your performance prediction of the new M5 ?
The power to weight is there to turn a 4.0 easy. The questions remain the amount of traction the car will be able to generate at the launch and the gearing of the car. My guess is we will need a 1->2 shift and 1st gear will be too short to use with anything but drag radials on the back so I will stick with my 4.4
However, if BMW does continue their tradition of 2nd gear running out in the low 60s then I would not at all be surprised to see an experienced drag racer do a 2nd gear launch and rip off a 3.9
