I originally fitted H+R springs on the standard EDC struts, but recently changed to BC coilovers. The H+R's weren't bad, but the handling on the BC coilovers is at another level altogether. Damping quality, grip and chassis feedback vastly improved. I recently did a track day at Silverstone, best lap was 2:33. Apparently that's Porsche GT3 territory.

I plan on fitting the RD sport sway bars soon. B16Bug - did you find a place to buy these in the UK, or order from US?

I bought them from the U.S, where did you buy & fit the BC coilovers?
How have you found the standard clutch?
I blew my clutch at the Ring :pensive:
Been a bit disheartened with the car since.

Hello everyone. I need some advise. So I opted to get springs for the beast. But considering the milage of the OEM springs (68k) I've been advised to get new shocks/struts.

So I would like to know what cost effective options are available for shock/strut replacement.

I would like to keep the EDC functionality and something that can handle an aggressive stand (RK Sport Springs).

The more I look for options it seems like I'm at the border costs line of coil overs which I don't necessarily need since I don't track the car. But if the cost is so close I might as well.

Are there any good cost effective options for shocks? Please let me know any options and estimated costs. Thanks for your input.

68K is nothing on the OEM struts unless you drove it super hard in sport mode all the time. There are plenty of people with over 100K on their factory struts.

The M5 is my dad's - but I drive it more than he does!

Sold Sept '16. It was an amazing 7 years.

But is that 100k miles on OEM springs or aftermarket lowering springs?

Most of the forums say average life is somewhere between 78k-88k. But once you put lowering springs it will certainly kill them. Especially with an aggressive drop like the one with RD Sport springs.

I was at the same cross road a couple years ago when I was at 75,xxx miles.

I ended up just getting coilovers when my old suspension needed a refresh at 75,xxx miles...but I also track all my cars.

Today, I'm 35,000 miles on my coilovers with no issues.

Well I'm $420 in with the springs so far. I haven't installed them. I'm thinking coil overs are about $2k. Right? So I'm wondering if there are any shock/strut options for the e60 M5 that's less than $1,600. Any thoughts? Am I on the mark with assumed coil over price?

They can be, if you set them up to be harder than EDC. Or you can adjust the dampening to be softer.

You lose the ability to control the ride at the push of the button. You gain much more adjustability, but you have to adjust manually. My Ground Controls are different, than my PSS, than my CKS, but each of them can be "dialed in" for any ride stiffness/plushness.
