If the M5 is to beat the E55 on paper in a straight line, it definitely requires at least 500HP and at least 420lb-ft torque. Any less and the superior flat and extremely absurd torque curve will pummel the M5.

On the track... well, we already know the M5 will beat AMG's offering.

With 469hp and 516tq w211 E55 i think M5 will need even more than that.

Also a cheap pulley kit upgrade(hp/$$) from Renntech or Evosport
will make it fly.

torgue again

Everyone feels that torque will be less than the e55 et al, and I agree, especially since an normally aspirated motor make HP with either rpm or dsplacement or BOTH. I suspect that fuel economy will give us RPM.

So everyone is concerned about the off-the-line performance and doesn't appear as concerned with the higher gears. Anyone besides me think that's where the 7th speed may be going? to help cover up the lower torque.

I dont think its that bad. I think if you swap out the wood for aluminum in the pic it would look better.

also- I dont care if I am beaten at the stop light derby. a car like the M5 needs a lot of highway or clear back roads. the stop light derby with the soccer moms driving ML55 AMGs are not for me.

[ (The F1 car's redline is like, 15,000 RPM or something ridiculous).

-Matthew [/b][/quote]

Acctually the F1 car's redline is way over 19000 RPM and delivers about 890HP.

I don't the new V10 will have his redline @ a higher RPM then the current V8.

About other cars using a V10.
Lamborghini just introduced their F360 opponent.
It is the Gallardo with a 5 liter V10 with 500HP, developed and produced by Audi.
